Rock the Week
Shadow Rock Celebrations

The creativity and energy of our Shadow Rock Preschool staff is turned up to 11 this week with the first of several weeks of enrichment and readiness programming for young humans.
We're also celebrating last Saturday evening's fundraising dinner for our Refugee Resettlement Fund. Many volunteers contributing many hours made this event possible. If you're one of them, THANK YOU and we hope you had some time for rest afterwards. Contributions to the fund are needed and appreciated. Get started with secure online giving here.
Community Prayer and Care In Action

Friends,
A member of our congregation has become very limited in their capacity to take care of themselves and needs some limited home care. This person is in a transitional time of 15 days until they enter into an assisted living home. This person has very limited resources and has no family to help. Pastor Ken has developed a schedule of care that requests help for a 9 am hour, 12 pm hour, and 5 pm hour time slots. The tasks include helping with meals, medications, and feeding the dog. If you would like to be a part of this short season of care, please contact Pastor Ken. He is keeping the name and location of this person anonymous to protect their dignity and to protect them in their vulnerable condition.
Reproductive Freedom Moves to the Forefront

During this past weekend there were two reproductive justice rallies in Phoenix. If you're interested in participating in future demonstrations and direct action events, please email Karen.

It's a good time to mention preparation and safety for rallies and protests. Take a look at these suggestions and let's keep talking:
  • Don't forget the basics: sunscreen, water, and basic first aid supplies. If you're participating in a group, plan who will bring what and share the responsibility for staying safe. Quickly organized, grassroots events may not have these resources readily available.
  • Preparation has a spiritual aspect too. Be ready to settle your body in response to the presence of counterprotesters and people threatening violence. Armed counterprotesters (Proud Boys) did attend Sunday's rally at the Capitol. It's best to avoid engaging.
Congregational Meeting on June 5

What better way to welcome the spirit of Pentecost, birthday of the Church, than a congregational meeting? We'll spend time together at 11:15 am on June 5, both in person and on Zoom, taking care of the business of our life together as a community. The agenda of our congregational meeting includes approving the budget and election of new board members and officers. We are grateful for Shadow Rock leaders that make our life together possible. See you there!
Sacred Sites Team Shares

You're invited! The Sacred Sites team will meet this coming Sunday after worship in the multi-purpose room. Arlene Dominguez will be sharing many of the photos taken by the guide while kayaking down the river during our recent Verde River trip. Tom Batson will provide a brief summary of the trip, with some historical information and current changes taking place on the river due to climate change.
Ktizo Korner

Ktizo was the recipient of an all-school water bottle drive to provide water for this summer's Heat Relief and Hydration program for the homeless. We're grateful for the families and volunteers from Indian Bend Elementary School for making this possible. Over the course of two days, over 500 cases of water were transferred to Ktizo where they were unloaded and stored for use this summer.

When can you help? Beat the Heat heat relief and hydration runs on Wednesday afternoons June through September. Make a plan for compassion and connection with their SignUpGenius! Our partnership with Ktizo centers on mutuality, hospitality, and compassion. Thanks for giving this opportunity prayerful consideration.
Upcoming Spiritual Formation Opportunities

Even as our temperatures rise, we have things going on! Here's what's on the horizon for spiritual formation:

  • Africa's Great Civilizations - we're screening this beautiful and challenging documentary on June 12 and 19 at 9:00 am.
  • Zoom Small Group - join friends in a supportive and engaging program online June 6, 13, and 20 as we explore sustaining a journaling practice during July Sabbath.
  • Racial Justice Study Group - let's read and study together, in preparation for change and action. If you'd like to read and reflect over July, please get in touch with Karen by email or on Sunday morning.
