ROCK THE WEEK
September 9, 2020
Looking to the Future
Thanks to Michael Curry for this great shot of our sanctuary. Although the parking lot looks empty now, we're hoping it won't remain that way for long. We're putting together plans to phase-in worship gatherings on campus, starting in October. We will continue to hold virtual worship and we've been very pleased with the participation and connections being made on Sunday mornings via Zoom. If you haven't tried it yet, we invite you to join us this week!
This Week Online
Wednesday (9/9): Connections Count on Zoom at 7:00 p.m.
A combination of celebrations and prayer requests, plus a chance to connect with our Shadow Rock family. Click here at 7:00 to participate.

New sessions are starting! This first meeting will be our introduction for the next pair of discussions. We'll alternate weeks with a creativity challenge and an Our Whole Lives book discussion. Email Karen to register and get the Zoom link for Monday's meeting. Learn more about these offerings below under "More to Explore."

Sunday, September 13
Virtual Worship is delivered to your inbox first thing in the morning. Jesus told a parable about a big party but no one showed up. They didn't even have the challenge of a pandemic and social distancing. I am grateful that with our current challenges we are still committed to showing up to the "parties" of our day and for each other. Let's talk about this some more on Sunday. Come hear Marilyn share a powerful poem and discuss what the message evokes on your heart and mind. This discussion will include a message via Zoom at 11 a.m., breakout groups and then regather as a large group to summarize our discussion. We hope you will add to the experience of becoming and belonging by participating.

Faith Formation is at 10:00 a.m. on Zoom. You'll find the link in Sunday's worship email. This week, let's talk about the order of worship! While we like to think of ourselves as an experimental church, the basic worship service hasn't changed too much in the last 2000 years. Come be a part of this fascinating discussion! Click here for an updated flier with all of our fall Faith Formation Topics.

Monday's Small Group Ministry is starting again! Our initial meeting for this round is next Monday, September 14th at 6:55 p.m. via Zoom. Our new topics (alternating weeks) are...
  • Creativity Challenge (begins Sept. 21st) - respond to a prompt by creating something with items in your home; no art experience needed (check out the cool idea in the picture above!)
  • Our Whole Lives Bookclub (18+)(begins Sept. 28th) "this is how it always is" by Laurie Frankel - a family-centered novel exploring gender and peaceful parenting, which is free on Kindle Unlimited!
Get the Zoom link or get your questions answered with a quick email to Karen. All are welcome to participate!
The Southwest Conference Annual Meeting usually takes place in the spring. Due to the pandemic, it has been shifted to a virtual event this fall. Annual Meeting will be the first weekend in October, and Shadow Rock will be represented by delegates Gordon and Joyce Schneider, Liz Curry, Michael Curry and Karen Richter. This is the time to conduct the business of our church conference, and it connects us with the larger United Church of Christ. We'll join with the whole conference on October 4th for the Annual Meeting Worship Service, which will be held virtually. Dive deeper into Annual Meeting here, or ask any of our delegates for more information!
Focus On....
Each week we'll be spotlighting an organization or site that's worth looking into. If you would like to suggest a future group to feature, please contact Abeth.

UMOM New Day Centers provide shelter, services, and affordable housing for people experiencing homelessness. They have shelters for families with children, as well as ones for adult women and for teenagers. They gladly accept donations of gently-used household items, as well as ongoing needs such as cleaning supplies, shampoo and soap, diapers, etc.
Reminders While the Campus is Closed
  • Our mail service is on hold and being picked up more sporadically. If you have important mail that needs our attention, please contact Heidi and she will give you an alternate address so we can receive it quicker.
  • If you need any assistance securing groceries, medicine or toiletries, please contact us via email. We want to do our best to make sure everyone is safe and well.
  • One of the most important things we can do for each other during this time of isolation and distance is to keep in touch. We're a very social church family, and it's hard to be apart from one another! Try to take time every day or two to call, text, or email one of your Shadow Rock friends.
Supporting Shadow Rock
Thank you for your love and support of Shadow Rock! Your financial support and donations are more important than ever as we go through this unprecedented time of uncertainty. If you have questions about giving electronically, please reach out to Heidi and she'll be happy to help! You can also give to our Pastor's Charitable Fund or Facilities Improvement Fund by clicking the yellow donate button below.
