Love Seed: Shadow Rock at North Mountain Brewing - April 2

We meet again at North Mountain Brewery on April 2 at 4:00 pm, to gather our Love Seed fellowship to discuss the fourth affirmation of the Phoenix Affirmations regarding progressive Christianity.

Affirmation 4 is Expressing our love of God includes worship that is as sincere, vibrant, and artful as it is scriptural. Scripture resources for the fourth affirmation include Genesis 2:7; Exodus 31:2-5l; Revelation 18:22

As Christians, we strive to respond to God’s artistry in Creation by integrating the arts in worship, education and proclamation. We encourage the reclaiming of artistry and artistic expression in all Christian endeavors, both personal and communal.

We affirm that the Path of Jesus is found where Christ’s followers make sincere and vibrant worship of God as central to the life of their community as Jesus did. We further affirm artistic expression as a way of reflecting God’s creativity, joy, and prophetic voice in what may be seen, heard, felt, tasted, sung and spoken.

We confess that we have moved away from Christ’s Path when we have failed to make worship the product of our best efforts to experience and express love for God, neighbor and self in community with others. We have moved further from this path when we have considered the arts as trivial or merely tangential to the life of a mature Christian community.

You do not need the book to participate but if you want to purchase it, you can find it here. If you have questions, contact Pastor Ken by email.

This Friday is International Transgender Day of Visibility!

Dear Ones, right now transgender youth are the target of legislative attacks. Our values of inclusion and justice invite our response. You can use this link to let local lawmakers know how you feel.

This Friday, March 31, is an opportunity to voice your support for trans beloveds. It's International Transgender Day of Visibility, and a day to get loud about our solidarity with trans and nonbinary folks.

This recent article from the Washington Post is a great resource if you're still learning about gender identity. It's awesome to have questions! Reach out to Karen by email or on Sunday to talk it through.

Community Week - We Need Groceries!

One of the most fun weeks for preschool is Community Week which is April 4 through 7. Our young students experience life in a positive, inclusive community... including shopping in the grocery store. What seems like a chore for us is joyous fun for the little ones.

We are in need of LOTS of items for our grocery store. Please send in empty, recyclable and clean food containers such as cereal boxes, cake mix boxes, macaroni and cheese boxes, berry containers, beverage jugs, and other similar containers. Please help us stay safe by not sending glass items or any item from a product that contains nuts.

Our children and families really appreciate your participation in Community Week. Look for fun photos next week!

Sacred Sites Spring 2023 - Wat Promkunaram

The Sacred Sites team invites you to visit Wat Prokunaram for the community's spring festival on April 16. We'll leave Shadow Rock immediately following worship and plan to return around 4:00 pm.

It is customary to take food to contribute to the event. We invite you to do so and suggest that you use disposable serving pieces.

Doug and Emmy Davis are coordinating this event. For questions, you're welcome to call them at 602-867-3281. Get all the details with this bulletin insert.

2023 All-Church Read

Get ready to join a denomination-wide book club.

As the entire United Church of Christ prepares for this summer's General Synod, everyone is invited to read together. The all-church read is Ibram X. Kendi's How to Be an Antiracist.

Let's read and discuss! Get your copy here. Stay tuned for more information about the all-church read. Already reading? Reach out to Karen to help with a discussion group.

Shoutin' From the Mountaintop - A Report From Your Church Board

We do our best to communicate with everyone, but there's always a lot going on, so you may not be aware of all the wonderful things happening at Shadow Rock. For the next couple of months, Rock the Week will include a series of short articles covering all aspects of our life together. If you read something that piques your interest, warms your heart, or invites you to participate, contact the church office, and we’ll be happy to point you in the right direction! Our first report is from Susan Wadell, President of the Shadow Rock Board.

Shadow Rock Board Members: Joe Botticelli, Susan Glynn, Peggy Hesley, Peter Johnston, Jan Morrison, Stephanie Moffett, Susan Wadell

While balancing the demands of today, the Board envisions building an infrastructure that embraces and serves the future. Building on work of the Board for the past few years, a task force gathering information regarding how Shadow Rock Preschool may best serve our community and another working on various possibilities of leveraging Shadow Rock assets to propel our ministries have been established. With a broad perspective of Shadow Rock arenas, the Board celebrates today and declares the future is open!
