Rock the Week for October 20
Your Wednesday Dose of Shadow Rock News
SHADOW ROCK SEEK AND FIND
Last week's Seek and Find photo (see below) was a closeup shot of Shadow Rock's poster-sized copy of Picasso's Guernica. Part of our theological heritage includes connecting art, culture, personal history, and religious tradition. Lots of Profound Journey Dialog participants have experienced this as a reflection on Guernica or various movies and songs.

You're invited to a short reflective Afterparty this coming Sunday that might give a new perspective on Shadow Rock's theological campfires. Join us in Smith Hall immediately following worship for an experience and discussion (about 20 minutes). For Profound Journey Dialog or Afterparty questions, please email Karen.
Board Officers Update
We're grateful for the leadership, compassion, and visioning spirit of the Shadow Rock Board. With thankful hearts, we recognize new officers. Bob Lee is our new treasurer and Stephanie Moffat is our new secretary. Thank you Stephanie and Bob for what you do for Shadow Rock!
Sacred Sites Trip This Week
This coming Saturday, a group of Shadow Rockers will be traveling to Verde Valley as part of the new Sacred Sites program. With the leadership of Rev Gene LeFebrve, Arlene Dominguez, and Nanci Campbell, participants will encounter different sites and learn about the people that called those places sacred. Our prayers for safety and ease go with them on Saturday!
Refugee Resettlement Ministry - An Update
Update from Pastor Ken:
The picture of two Teddy Bears are gifts from Bert Ruby and Loreen Shipley for the two young boys in the Afghan family we have promised to sponsor. This is one example of the many thoughtful gifts that have come our way as we prepare for their arrival. Sharon Haynes has done tremendous work collecting items to set up a household, and she is near completion of that task. Our current effort is to build up cash reserves and meet our obligations to United States Customs and Immigration Services.

Please continue to pray and support our efforts to get our Afghan family here quickly. Their situation is growing more desperate. Their anxiety is growing everyday. The Afghan embassy is firing more members of their diplomatic corps, and none of them have received compensation for months. We continue to plead with the Department of Homeland Security to expedite their safe passage to the United States but we hear nothing from them. Many people have pledged their support and we thank you. Please make your contributions to Shadow Rock UCC and on the memo line write "Refugee Resettlement Fund."

Friends, you continue to be caring, generous, and prayerful. Thank you and contact Pastor Ken if you have questions.
