This Week Around the Mountain

Here's your "Need to Know" for this coming Sunday morning:

Spiritual Formation at 9:00 am is shifting gears for adults. Pastor Ken is starting a new series focusing on trust. Children (Blue Room - drop on by!) are continuing Honoring the Body through November.

There is no Coffee Chat this week, but there is communion during worship and Sermon Reboot, a casual discussion on the sermon topic, right after worship.

Shadow Rock Preschool Celebrations!

Look at this lovely ofrenda assembled by Sea Turtle (3s) and Unicorn (4s) students and teachers. Dia de los Muertes was observed respectfully and joyfully in our preschool! Pictures on the ofrenda helped young people remember special people and animals in their lives.

Also around the preschool...  Did you know that Lightning McQueen was a Shadow Rocker? And while we're talking about vehicles, don't those Rock-It drivers look a little young? Today was Vehicle Day at Shadow Rock Preschool. Thanks to all the individuals and organizations who made the day special for our young friends.

Vehicle Day brought to the campus an ice cream truck, Lightning McQueen, the Arizona Humane Society, a school bus from Washington Elementary School District, plus Phoenix police and fire and our own Shadow Rock-It. It was a really great morning!

Voting at Shadow Rock

We really enjoy and appreciate being a polling location! All voters registered in Maricopa County can vote at Shadow Rock. People with a PEVL ballot can drop it off here. Polls are open:

Today through Saturday, November 5 - 9:00 am to 7:00 pm

Monday, November 7 - 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Election Day: Tuesday, November 8 - 6:00 am to 7:00 pm

Please note that polls are closed on Sundays. If you vote during church office hours, stick your head in and say hi!

Looking Ahead to Thanksgiving and Advent

Here we go, friends!

Our hospitality and joy really shine through this time of year. Please make note of these Holiday Happenings around the campus:

  • We'll be collecting donations for Desert Mission Food Bank's Thanksgiving meal program, also known as Turkey Trot, through Sunday, November 13. Bring your check (made out to Desert Mission or to Shadow Rock with 'Turkey Trot' in the memo line) or give online here.
  • Advent Decorating will be Sunday, November 27. There will be easy ways to participate during worship that morning.
  • Advent Prayer Retreats will be offered at 6:00 pm on Sunday, November 2 and Monday, December 5. Email Karen to reserve your space.
  • Holiday Potluck will be after worship on Sunday, December 4.
  • Christmas Eve worship will be at 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 24.
  • Christmas Morning worship will be at 10:15 am on Sunday, December 24. Festive attire and pajamas are all welcome.

Family Opportunity - Arizona Science Center

Earlier this fall, Arizona Science Center created the AZ OnTrack Parent Guide. The 48 page guide offers opportunities for families to engage in robust learning activities together, leading to greater academic results. From creating a nature journal to excavating chocolate chip “fossils” from cookies, parents, caregivers, and other caring adults will find unique ways to get students ready to learn and engage at school.

Families who register and download the AZ OnTrack Parent Resource Guide can receive four free tickets to Arizona Science Center. When they complete the full activity guide and complete the OnTrack, Ready to Be Back Scavenger Hunt, families will earn a free family membership to Arizona Science Center.

Thanks to volunteers with Boy Scout Troop 426 who passed this information to us!
