Rock the Week

7 June 2023

This Sunday, June 11

It's Pride Month! In the midst of renewed attacks on LGBTQ+ people, solidarity among people of faith is more important than ever. Gender affirming care (especially for young people) has been in the news a lot lately. Learn the basics here... For more information (in the realm of sexuality education - not medical advice), please reach out to Karen.

Coming up this Sunday at Shadow Rock is spiritual formation at 9:00 am in the Multipurpose Room and worship at 10:15 am in the Sanctuary. At 9:00, we'll take a close look at the story of Philip and the eunuch, part of story of transformation in communities of resistance following Easter. After worship, you're invited to Coffee Chat in Smith Hall, hosted by the WISE Team. See the block below for the full scoop on WISE!

Celebrating Our WISE Covenant

The WISE Team is hosting Coffee Chat this week, to express appreciation to the congregation and celebrate our newly adopted WISE Covenant. Recently, the team received these encouraging words from staff at the UCC national setting, Dr. Vicki Harvey and Rev. Sarah Lund:

On behalf of the entire Mental Health Network of the UCC, I want to congratulate Shadow Rock UCC on adopting your WISE covenant. This is such a critical step in forming your identity as a WISE congregation, and we celebrate your vision, integrity, and perseverance in getting to this point. In my work with you through Liz Curry, I am so impressed with your sensitivity to the correlation of physical challenges with mental health issues and your dedication to meeting the needs of your immediate community as well as those outside your walls. I look forward to following you in all the ways you implement God's love to those struggling with mental health challenges and their families. We will be proud to welcome you into certification in the not too distant future, and can't wait to have you join our national WISE family.

Narcan on the Shadow Rock Campus

We are grateful for Janice and Brett Morrison's leadership on overdose care and Naloxone. Naloxone injector kits and nasal spray are available on campus in these locations: Bride's Room and Kreider Center kitchenette (in the Sanctuary building) and in Pastor Ken's office (in the Education building). Look for an update when we have more permanent locations,

Naloxone (brand name Narcan) can save the life of a person who's experiencing a narcotics overdose. It's safe to use, even if you're not sure if an unconscious person is having an overdose. To review the instructions for administering Naloxone, please click here. If you use a Naloxone kit or see one being used, please let the office know so the medication can be replaced.

This is part of our ongoing ministry of safety and care for all people.

Facilities Improvement Fund

We want to express tremendous gratitude for people in our community who have already responded to the recent ask for the Facilities Improvement Fund (also called Momentum at Work). Our beautiful and welcoming facility has many needs. Over $8,000 has been raised which will help make possible necessary air conditioning repairs.

Shadow Rock Sabbath

We're coming up on July and our tradition of Sabbath. Sometimes we stay connected to one another in spirit with Sabbath "homework," a question or idea that we think about during July. This year, our Sabbath homework is a simple question: What's next for you?

In August, you'll have several opportunities to share your answers and ponderings. Joyful Sabbath for all!

If you're new to the Shadow Rock community, our Sabbath begins after the potluck on June 25. We re-gather for worship on August 6.
