Our 'Welcome Back' Potluck Goes Digital
On Sunday the 16th, we will have a virtual potluck! Come to virtual Coffee Chat at 11:00 a.m. and bring a plate of food and a drink. We'll enjoy food and fellowship together, through Zoom. Between now and the 16th we are collecting church potluck recipes. You can email Karen a recipe that is a family favorite or share one for silly fun. Pastor Ken submitted the following, to the utter disgust of the rest of the staff:

·     Place Twinkies in a casserole dish line up and squished together so as to fill the entire dish.
·     Pour fruit cocktail over all the Twinkies.
·     Spray and entire can of Redi-Whip until all the Twinkies and fruit cocktail is covered. (Use two cans if necessary. If two cans is too much than empty the can into a separate bowl, chill, and eat later.)
·     Sprinkle mini-marshmallows over the top (optional but multi colors is best.)
·     Serves 8-10 people.
·     Bon Appetit!

Sunday, August 9
Virtual Worship is delivered to your inbox first thing in the morning. We had a very positive response to Pastor Ken giving a short message LIVE at the 11:00 a.m. Coffee Chat time last Sunday. We do not know if the enthusiastic response was based on the content of the message, the fact that it was live, or because it was short. Regardless, we hear you and we continue to push ourselves to be experimental and experiential.

For a season Pastor Ken will give his Sunday “Word About Life” messages LIVE at 11:00 a.m. Join the discussion. There is no experience if you do not participate. This Sunday we have the opportunity to discuss how the idea of being open and welcoming is a nice warm fuzzy idea but it is actually hard work. There are challenges. What are the challenges for us and for you?

Faith Formation returns this Sunday! Join us on Zoom at 10:00 a.m. for the first of two mini-series that both focus on clarity: universal human needs/values and the iceberg model of culture. More about this fall's Faith Formation series can be found below. All are welcome.

Our Church Family: We have been told that Nadine Shank, who has played music for us with Walt Nielson on special Sunday mornings, has been diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a devastating neurological condition. She holds Shadow Rock in a special place in her heart, and would love to hear an encouraging word. Her address is 17 Stagecoach Road, Amherst, Massachusetts 01002.
Focus On....
Each week we'll be spotlighting an organization or site that's worth looking into. If you would like to suggest a future group to feature, please contact Abeth.

Food waste is the single largest component going into local landfills, which costs money, resources, and harms our environment. In 2018 alone, the Arizona non-profit Waste Not diverted 1,750 TONS of good food from landfills to partner agencies that serve those in need. Learn more about their mission and how to support it at their website.
Reminders While the Campus is Closed
  • Our mail service is on hold and being picked up more sporadically. If you have important mail that needs our attention, please contact Heidi and she will give you an alternate address so we can receive it quicker.
  • If you need any assistance securing groceries, medicine or toiletries, please contact us via email. We want to do our best to make sure everyone is safe and well.
  • One of the most important things we can do for each other during this time of isolation and distance is to keep in touch. We're a very social church family, and it's hard to be apart from one another! Try to take time every day or two to call, text, or email one of your Shadow Rock friends.
Supporting Shadow Rock
Thank you for your love and support of Shadow Rock! Your financial support and donations are more important than ever as we go through this unprecedented time of uncertainty. If you have questions about giving electronically, please reach out to Heidi and she'll be happy to help! You can also give to our Pastor's Charitable Fund or Facilities Improvement Fund by clicking the yellow donate button below.
