ROCK THE WEEK
January 27, 2021
National Setting Shout-Out!
The United Church of Christ YouTube Channel has SO MANY great webinars and training opportunities. This week, say no to more cat videos and instead get to know the UCC on YouTube. While you're there, check to make sure you've subscribed to Shadow Rock's Channel too!
This Week Online
Wednesday (1/27): Connections Count on Zoom at 7:00 p.m.
Part of our community is listening and connecting. On Wednesdays, we share celebrations and prayer requests. When we're paying attention, life gives us lots of opportunities to celebrate and to pray. Everyone is welcome for this time of connection. Click here at 7:00 to participate.

Friday (1/29): Yoga Nidra
This week, look for yoga nidra (a short and gentle meditation practice) Friday at 10:00 am, live on the Shadow Rock Facebook page. The more we serve others, the more we need to replenish our inner resources. Self-care and community care are more than just candles and bubble baths. Yoga nidra can be part of your weekly practice. No yoga experience is required.

Monday (2/1): Small Group Ministry
Our small group ministry for Season of Nonviolence 2021 is a beginner-level exploration of compassionate communication (sometimes called non-violent communication). No reading or preparation is required. Click here on Monday at 7:00 p.m. to join.

Sunday, January 31
Virtual Worship is delivered to your inbox first thing in the morning.
We are continuing a Zoom-only worship experience until gathering in person is possible. Click the Zoom link at 11:00 a.m. in the worship email for this week's service. Worship is "what we do" together, celebrating and affirming our community and our symbolic life together.

Adult Spiritual Formation is at 10:00 a.m. on Zoom. The link is in the worship email. With just a few weeks left until Lent begins, we have a short series for heading into February: Three Things. We’ll try some quick response writing and sharing around mindfulness and gratitude.
Expect a welcoming and lively conversation!
More to Explore
This Sunday, expect great things! Minister of Wholeness Rev. Dr. Patricia StandTal Clarke will be delivering the sermon in Zoom worship. Rev. Patricia's sermon title is An American Woman: Two Spirited and Two Nations. Sundays are always a great time to be together in community!
Happy New Year! Giving statements were sent via email on January 23 and 24 from a temporary email, Heidisrucc@gmail.com. If you haven't seen your statement, please check your spam and trash folders. Contact Heidi if you need a physical statement sent to you via USPS.  Thank you for your continued support of Shadow Rock.
important date
Several events are around the corner! Our next community blood drive will be Sunday, February 28th between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Appointments are required. Also coming soon is tax preparation assistance through AARP. Watch Rock the Week for additional information about these events. We're grateful for the chance to continue to serve our community with our physical campus.
We want to share the news that Abeth Spencer, our Director of Communications, will be taking a new job this week at Manzanita Elementary as their librarian. While she will still be a part of the Shadow Rock family, it will be in a less visible role as congregant and volunteer. Abeth is grateful for the support of everyone at Shadow Rock these last ten years and has truly been honored to give so much to the place she calls home. Please share Abeth's excitement about this new opportunity in a dream job.
The Season of Nonviolence is a stretch of time between the assassination dates of Mahatma Gandhi (January 30) and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King (April 4). During the Season at Shadow Rock, we'll be bundling up worship, small groups, sermon series, and spiritual formation to reflect our core value of justice.

Season of Nonviolence, Part 1
Our first foray into the Season will be our Monday evening small group. The topic is Compassionate Communication Basics, a tool for interpersonal and group communication.

Season of Nonviolence, Part 2
The second phase will be our 2021 Lenten study, a Choose-Your-Own Adventure Journey of the Spirit with Sunday morning and weekday options. Stay tuned for the details as we get closer to the beginning of Lent. For details or ways to get involved, please email Karen.
Reminders While the Campus is Closed
  • The United States Postal Service is experiencing service delays due to the pandemic. If you are sending mail that needs special attention, please contact Heidi.
  • If you need any assistance securing groceries, medicine or toiletries, please contact us via email. We want to do our best to make sure everyone is safe and well.
  • One of the most important things we can do for each other during this time of isolation and distance is to keep in touch. We're a very social church family, and it's hard to be apart from one another! Try to take time every day or two to call, text, or email one of your Shadow Rock friends.

Thank you for your love and support of Shadow Rock! Your financial support and donations are more important than ever as we go through this unprecedented time of uncertainty. If you have questions about giving electronically, please reach out to Heidi and she'll be happy to help!
