A Legacy by the Sea: Saying Goodbye to Cabrillo Beach Youth Center
As 2025 came to a close, we said goodbye to one of our beloved Scouting homes. Cabrillo Beach Youth Center, which faithfully served the San Pedro community and generations of Scouts since 1946, closed its doors after nearly eight decades of unforgettable experiences. From the mischievous shoe-stealing foxes and ice cream-loving raccoons to countless trainings, amazing campouts, OA ordeals, and moments of laughter and growth, the magic of Cabrillo Beach Youth Center lives on in the memories of all who have passed through its gates.
We were honored to celebrate the Cabrillo Beach Youth Center's impact and history together at our farewell potluck, grateful for the friendships, lessons, and stories that will forever be part of Scouting’s journey.
If you have photos from your time at Cabrillo Beach Youth Center that you’d like to share, please email them to cicily.gardea@scouting.org to be included in our Cabrillo Farewell Album.

Congratulations to Our New Certified Explorers!
Last month, eight outstanding LACoFD Explorers from Posts 13, 89, and 116 achieved an impressive milestone by successfully passing their skills evaluations and physical testing, earning the title of Certified Explorer. Over the past 12 to 24 months, these Explorers demonstrated commitment, discipline, and perseverance as they completed rigorous Task Books covering fire station and apparatus familiarization, hose and hardware, hose lays, self-contained breathing apparatus, ladders, ropes and knots, fireground operations, emergency medical services, truck operations, and wildland operations.
Congratulations to these Explorers on this well-earned achievement! Your dedication, teamwork, and hard work are commendable, and we are proud of all you have accomplished. We look forward to seeing the impact you will continue to make as you move forward in your fire service journey.

Keep Your Scouting Profile Up to Date
Did you know you can easily update your personal and contact information on my.scouting.org? The information in your profile serves as your official record in Scouting, so keeping it current is important.
Updating your information yourself helps free up valuable staff time and ensures we have the most accurate details on file. Having up-to-date information also allows us to communicate with you promptly and provide the best possible service.
When you log in to my.scouting.org, click the Menu in the upper left-hand corner and select “My Profile.” From there, you can review and update the following information:
-
First, middle, and last name (including prefix and suffix): Please update this section if you have had a name change or notice a spelling error in your profile.

-
Phone number: You can update an existing phone number or add a work or mobile number.

Please remember to click “Save” after making any updates. Note that you cannot change your date of birth in your profile. If you believe your date of birth is incorrect, please get in touch with our Registrar, Danette Verdugo, at danette.verdugo@scouting.org for assistance.
