Rocket Report

Vol. 3, No. 15 November 22, 2019
Words with Wilson
For the past three years, our school has had a school wide theme for the school year. This year, our theme is “The Journey Makes Us One.” Each Wednesday before we start our all school mass, we pray together the beautiful prayer that Mrs. Baumann wrote that centers around our theme. The teachers infuse the theme in their religion classes, we have bulletin boards with beautifully written prayers by our students, and we are always discussing ways in which our journey here at St. Roch Catholic School makes us one.

Our theme is used to remind us that the most important thing we do at St. Roch Catholic School is to grow in our faith each day. Our daily actions, words, thoughts, and prayers reflect how thankful we are for all that God gives to us. I love that each day we provide opportunities to grow in our faith. This is what sets us apart from public schools and other non-christian schools. We are blessed with the opportunity to worship with Mass twice each week. Nothing makes me happier than to sit at a weekday mass and listen to our students sing and participate fully.

Our Mass attendance has dropped drastically in the last few years. Fewer of our students are worshipping on Sunday. Starting the week off with mass is a great way to unite as a family, and also to fuel your soul for the week ahead.

Have a great weekend, Rockets!

Spirit Wear Info
Saint Roch spiritwear has been sent home - unless you specifically requested to pick your items up in the school office. If you requested office pickup, please do so during school hours.

If there are issues (missing items, wrong sizes/styles) with your order, please let Tina Hayes ( ) know immediately. All issues must be brought to her attention no later than Wednesday, November 27th . Unfortunately, we do not have the funds to hold inventory so if you ordered something but find that you don't like it or that it doesn't fit, we cannot exchange those items. But - many families reached out after the sale was closed in an attempt to order, and you might be able to sell your items. We would suggest starting with the Saint Roch Mommas facebook page. Additionally, feel free to let Tina know if you have something you would be willing to sell or trade as she may be able to connect you with families looking for something in particular.

Our next sale will most likely take place in January or February. If you have ideas for items that you would like for us to offer, please reach out to Tina Hayes at the email listed above as we are always looking for new ideas!

Roncalli High School is hosting two outstanding speakers in the coming months, and has invited all South Deanery Schools to participate. All parents are welcome to attend a presentation from Detective Darin Odier in the Roncalli Auditorium on Monday, December 2nd from 6:30-8:00pm. Darin has served our community as a police officer for 30 years and a Federal Task Force Officer with the FBI Child Exploitation unit for 13 years. His presentation will focus on social media applications and dangers, sextorsion, and real life predators. Darin asks that no young children be present. While his talk does not include anything graphic, the subject matter is NOT for children.
Roncalli High School will be hosting Dr. Amy LaHood, Family Medicine Specialist at St. Vincent Hospital, who will be speaking to parents on "The Vaping Crisis." Dr. LaHood has been in family medicine for over two decades and has been on the front lines battling the vaping crisis with families and teenagers. Parents, please join us for this important presentation on Monday, January 27th in the Roncalli Auditorium from 6:30-7:30pm. Any parent of a St. Roch student that attends will receive a wristband that allows their child(ren) to be out of uniform that next day. Please note that this presentation is geared towards parents, and not children nor students.
