Rocket Report

Vol. 3, No. 12, November 1, 2019
Words with Wilson
All Saints' Day is a religious holiday celebrated by the Catholic Church and some Protestant Churches, as well as Eastern Orthodox Churches. It is a celebration to honor the saints that have graced our world, and as a day to honor loved ones who have passed away. The feast day began in Rome in the 600s, but is celebrated in countries all over the world today. Some people celebrate the holiday by decorating graves with flowers, by lighting candles, and by attending religious ceremonies.

It is a long standing tradition at St. Roch Catholic School to celebrate by having our 1st grade students dress as Saints as part of our All Saints Day Mass. It is always a beautiful celebration. Not only do they dress as Saints, they also learn about their Saint. They write a report, and present the report to their classmates and families. Here is what some of our 1st grade students learned about their Saint:

“Saint Hubert was a hunter. His Feast Day is November 3rd.”
Ian Wade

“St. Rose of Lima was a really great Saint. She was kind to others. Her Feast Day is August 23rd.”
Tinley Ehresman

“St. Genevieve protected the city from Attila and his army of Huns. She lived to be 89 years old. Her Feast Day is January 3rd.”
Genevieve Crawley

“St. Benjamin was a deacon. He gave up his life for God. His Feast Day is March 31st.”
Ben Kennedy

Class Baskets
Any student who has already turned in a donation for the class baskets, or turns one in on Monday, may be casual on Monday.

The annual St. Roch Auction/Reverse Raffle is scheduled for November 8th, and is one of St. Roch’s main fundraisers for the year. Back by popular demand are the Grade Level Baskets. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the baskets, each grade or homeroom sponsors a basket to be auctioned the night of the Reverse Raffle. In the past, the baskets have proven to be very popular. The themes for the baskets will be announced at a later date.

We really need everyone’s participation to make the baskets a huge success. Any monetary donations would be greatly appreciated (check should be made payable to “St. Roch”). In lieu of monetary donations, if you have gift cards or sporting event tickets that are available for donation, that would be great too! The donations can be forwarded to the student’s teacher and we are hoping to have all donations in by Monday, November 4th.

If you wish to donate online, please use the link below.
