Rocket Report

Vol. 3, No. 29, March 13, 2020
St. Roch school has moved to e-learning for the next two weeks, followed by one week of Spring Break. We are scheduled to return on April 6th.
Words with Wilson
On February 29th, many of our 7th and 8th Grade students competed in the annual Roncalli Quest for Excellence competition. This is one of my favorite competitions that we compete in because I have great memories of competing in the competition when I was in 7th and 8th grade at Holy Name.

Students compete in a variety of categories against students from other south deanery schools. All students compete in at least two categories, and have a chance to earn medals if they place high enough. We had a fantastic showing this year, and had several place winners. The team worked hard to prepare and we are proud of each and every one of them.

Our Super Quiz team of Michael Riedeman, Lachlan Borders, Quinn O’Brien, Chloe Painchaud and Ezra Littell won the bronze medal for third place.
Annabelle Snyder placed fifth in the art competition.
Our duo of Gabby DeMore and Annah Meehan won the gold medal in drama.
Cameron O’Neill and Chloe Painchaud received honorable mention in geography.
Chase Monroe came away with the gold in geography.
In the history category, Cameron O’Neill and Simon Alba were honorable mention; Chloe Painchaud received the 6th place ribbon; Odin Debon the 5th place ribbon; Austin Bradley won the bronze and Chase Monroe captured the silver medal.
James Guthrie and Michael Reideman were honorable mention in math while Ezra Littell placed fourth.
Our science team of Carlie Gaskill, Cece Keiner, Lachlan Borders and Annabelle Snyder were gold medal winners.
Michael Reideman placed second in spelling and Quinn O’Brien came away with the gold.
In theology, Annah Meehan and Annabelle Snyder both received honorable mention.

I would like to extend a big thank you to all of our teachers and volunteers who helped to prepare our students for the competition. They put in a lot of extra hours before school, after school, and during their lunch periods. We have a fantastic staff, and I am so grateful for all of the sacrifices they make for our students.

A good day for the Rockets and thanks to all 7th and 8th graders who participated in Quest!

Roncalli Exchange Student
Seeking Host Family
Have you ever been interested in hosting an exchange student? We have an awesome opportunity for you and your family for next year!

Isabel Rubi is 17, and she will join us from Panama as a senior for the 2020-21 school year. Rubi is a Catholic, cheerful girl who says, "I spend my free time running and competing in Triathlons." She plans to continue running while in the USA.

She is on her current school's debate team, and she enjoys watching movies, tv and listening to music with her family. Isabel has a sister and hopes to have a sibling while at Roncalli. She would love to have her own bedroom, and she is more than willing to help with chores around the house. Isabel is looking forward to meeting her host family, coming to the USA and experiencing the culture!

If you are interested in hosting Rubi, please contact Janet Shaffer with the Council On International Educational Exchange (CIEE) at lazydlake@aol.com .
