E-Learning Days
St. Roch has worked diligently in preparation for offering E-learning days should they become necessary during the 2019-20 school year. I thank our teachers for the work they have done to position our school for an effective implementation of possible E-learning days.

Our plan for utilizing E-learning days at St. Roch will unfold as follows. The 2019-20 school calendar has four days we could designate as “Snow Make-up Days”: January 20 (Martin Luther King Day), February 7 (Presidents Day), May 14(Mayfest ) and May 15 (Mayfest).
Should we cancel school for any reason during the school year, we will use the next “Snow Make-up Day” available on the school calendar as an E-learning day. We will not use an E-learning day on the actual day for which school is canceled.

Students will not report physically to school on an E-learning day. Instead, they will work from home to complete assignments. Each teacher will send home (electronically or by paper) all work by the Friday before an E-Learning Day. For example, if we were to call off school next Tuesday, no work would be given. It would just be a traditional day, where kids get excited when they wake up and find out we have no school! No work would be sent on this day. We would then use MLK Day as our E-Learning Day. Students would work from home, and teachers would send the work on the Friday before MLK Day.
Families can now make plans for those four “Snow Make-up Days” without worrying about their child having to report physically to school. The expectation will be that the student have all assigned work completed by the next day. The completed work is how we will track attendance for the E-learning day.
Should we have to use an E-learning day(s) this school year, we will take feedback from students, teachers, and parents as to how we can improve the E-learning format. Please know that our goal is to not use an E-learning day unless it is absolutely necessary due to weather. Our first choice is always to have students at school!

Have a great weekend!

Roncalli High School is hosting two outstanding speakers in the coming months, and has invited all South Deanery Schools to participate. All parents are welcome to attend a presentation from Detective Darin Odier in the Roncalli Auditorium on Monday, December 2nd from 6:30-8:00pm. Darin has served our community as a police officer for 30 years and a Federal Task Force Officer with the FBI Child Exploitation unit for 13 years. His presentation will focus on social media applications and dangers, sextorsion, and real life predators. Darin asks that no young children be present. While his talk does not include anything graphic, the subject matter is NOT for children.
Roncalli High School will be hosting Dr. Amy LaHood, Family Medicine Specialist at St. Vincent Hospital, who will be speaking to parents on "The Vaping Crisis." Dr. LaHood has been in family medicine for over two decades and has been on the front lines battling the vaping crisis with families and teenagers. Parents, please join us for this important presentation on Monday, January 27th in the Roncalli Auditorium from 6:30-7:30pm. Any parent of a St. Roch student that attends will receive a wristband that allows their child(ren) to be out of uniform that next day. Please note that this presentation is geared towards parents, and not children nor students.

Kindermusik at St. Paul Hermitage
Moms/care-givers of infants and toddlers who are looking for a way to be of service to others have a wonderful opportunity to do so by bringing your little ones to a Kindermusik class at the St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove once a week with the senior nuns from the Benedictine Monastery and the senior residents of St. Paul. Kindermusik is a movement and music class for infants and toddlers. Kindermusik Studies have shown that music and movement have positive impacts on not only children but seniors as well. By bringing the Kindermusik experience to the senior sisters and residents, we are able to enrich the lives of children and seniors alike. It is truly a magical experience for all involved. Our classes were a huge success last year and we are offering them again this year. We have room for more little ones. In the class we move, rock, sway, clap, hop, crawl, cuddle, sing and play instruments to music age appropriate for infants up to age 3. Please consider this special opportunity to bring joy to the lives of our senior friends. For more information contact: Jody Treadwell, Director at 317-513-5941
