Rocket Report

Vol. 3, No. 6, September 13, 2019
Words with Wilson
I think all of us would agree that St. Roch Catholic School is a warm, welcoming place full of many awesome features and traditions! One of those traditions is our annual Roch-a-Thon Walk! The annual walk serves as a fundraiser for our school and each year we earmark funds from the walk to a school project. Last year the money was used to install flat panel interactive boards in each classroom and purchase several new Chromebooks for various grades. Those improvements have been very popular with teachers and staff alike!

This year the money raised from Roch-a-Thon will be used to remodel and improve an area of St. Roch Catholic School that is not warm or welcoming. I am speaking of our west entrance. This entrance was originally built in 1922 and served as the entrance to the original church. In 1924, the addition that became the school was completed and the entrance was changed slightly during this construction. For many years, it served as the main entrance to the church and the school and it was a bright vibrant area. In the 50’s when the “new” part of the school was added along with the “new” front entrance, the west entrance became less used and has become less and less vibrant and more and more forgotten. Plans are in the works to change this situation. These plans call for replacement of the interior and exterior doors, plaster repair, and repainting the stairs and walls from the basement all the way to the third floor. This project will be very labor and material intensive, but the project will be accomplished with faithful support of the donors to Roch-a-Thon and the many people that will share their talents to help us make repairs.

Our goal for this year’s walk is $22,000, I know that we will achieve this goal and hopefully surpass it, and I pledge to you that every dollar that is raised will be directed to the improvements of our west entrance and other improvements to the “older” part of the school. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity and support of Saint Roch Catholic School!

Boys Basketball Registration
basketball_wood_floor.jpg
Boys basketball registration is now open! Until Friday, September 27th. Please note because of our required team submissions to CYO, there will be NO LATE REGISTRATIONS, NO EXCEPTIONS. We hope everyone understands that the amount of teams we enter, we pay for each. Additionally, having any late registrations completely changes how we divide and make up our teams. So please understand the reasoning for this policy. Thank you.

The fee to play is $95.00 and this includes the use of a basketball uniform. You will not pay through the CYO system, but you still must register through CYO system.  We will add your basketball fees to you FACTS account as an incidental billing on September 27th. You will have 2 weeks to pay without incurring a late fee. This is another way we hope to streamline all billing for our families at St. Roch.

If you are interested in coaching a team, please contact Jeff Borders no later than September 15th by email to:  jeff.borders@sbcglobal.net . There will be a coaches meeting the week of the 16th. Thank you!
