Rocket Report

Vol. 3, No. 20, January 10, 2020
Words with Wilson
Several times a day I walk through the hallways and watch and listen for the wonderful learning that is taking place.  Every week I get to see our students really enjoying their learning. This week’s learning had it all: hands-on learning activities, critical thinking activities, learning through movement, students giving presentations, and students actively engaging with their peers.  I have put together a list of some of the great things that I observed this week in our building. It is a new year, and our building is alive with the Spirit of Christ, and an excitement for learning.

  • In Mr. Tindall’s Language Arts class, 8th graders shared their odes praising William Dawes, the unsung patriot who outrode Paul Revere and was lost in the shadow of Revere's fame.
  • Mrs. Robert’s Art classes made pottery.
  • Ms. Leppert’s 2nd grade class used task cards to learn about verb tenses.
  • 4th Grade learned a song called “Numbers” to the tune of the Imagine Dragons song “Thunder.” Mrs. Payne always brings music into math.
  • 3rd Grade students in Mrs. McClurg’s class modeled what happens to rocks as they moved down the river using construction paper.
  • Mrs. Elam had cookies and canvas during art class.  Students learned about Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” and then painted their own.
  • In 1st Grade, Mrs. Borders used a game called Scoot to learn about facts or opinions.
  • Our Kindergarten students used the I-Pads as they worked on their phonics stations.
  • 4th Grade learned to read treble clef notes and played xylophones.

It was a great week to be a Rocket.  This is just a snippet of the great things happening.  Enjoy your weekend!

Children's Liturgy of the Word
Returning in January 2020!
With the completion of renovations to our rectory basement this month, we are excited to begin offering Children’s Liturgy of the Word again to children ages 3 years through 2nd grade during 10:30am Masses starting at the end of January! In order to pick this ministry up once again, we are in need of additional adults to lead the children participating. If you are interested in learning more about how you can volunteer and contribute, please contact Stephanie Newton at or call the parish office. We will have a short informational meeting to talk about this ministry and how to volunteer in the coming weeks. Materials and activities will be supplied! Thank you for considering your own participation and who might be a great partner to team with!
