VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

LOTS OF VOLUNTEER REQUESTS IN THIS BUGLE!

Parents, this time of year is BUSY with tons of activities going on at school! As you will see in this Bugle, we need all the helpers we can get to make our programs happen. Running Club, Salmon feeders, Dance Volunteers, and so much more.

If a parent is awesome enough to chair a program or event, let's not make them beg for volunteers. We're counting on every parent to help in some way!  If you've never volunteered, now is the time to step up!

Try something new, grab your friend and volunteer together. Thanks everyone!
ROCKWELL PTA KUDOS, NEWS, and REQUESTS
  • DATE CHANGE/MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The date for our annual Art Docent Showcase, Used Book Sale, and Ice Cream Social (3 events in one) has been changed to Thursday, May 5th. More details to come.
  • Thank you to everyone who read our Special Update on the annual Pass The Hat fundraiser last week. More donations have been coming in. Thank you!
  • HELP US OUT 4th GRADE (or younger) PARENTS: Rockwell's 5th Grade Promotion needs a chairperson/committee ASAP for THIS year. This event occurs on the last day of school and the committee is traditionally filled by 4th grade (or younger) parents...so that the 5th grade parents can enjoy their child's last day at Rockwell. All the directions are organized in a folder by last year's chairperson. Can you help? (Next year it will be your turn!)  Email Jennifer Myrick asap.
  • AWARDS COMMITTEE FOR VOLUNTEER TEA which takes place on Tues, June 7th during the lunch hour. Please email Ami King for details on this fun event honoring both parent volunteers and staff members!
  • Popcorn Fridays will be coming soon. Next week we will post dates and volunteer needs for this Student Council program. Parent help is needed to pop the popcorn which will be sold at recess!
  • Parents: we need your help to keep our PTA and programs running next year!  This year, we have seen too many of the same people doing multiple volunteer jobs. We need some fresh faces next year to help even the load!  We'd love to see more dads too! A special-edition Bugle will be going out THIS WEEK with lots of chairperson openings that will need filling as well as many Board Positions such as President/Co-Presidents, VP Events, VP of Academic Enrichment and more...stay tuned!
SPIRIT WEEK IS HERE - GET OUT THOSE COSTUMES!

SALMON IN THE CLASSROOM UPDATE-VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

HELP OUR 4th GRADE STUDENTS FEED THE FISH!

The salmon eggs have all hatched and many of the alevin hiding among the rocks at the bottom of the tank are getting ready to emerge.  In just a week, the yolk sacs on many of the alevin have begun to disappear.

Soon the fish will be ready to feed! We are looking for parents that are interested in helping raise our coho. What does this mean?  It means about 40 minutes one day a week (or every other week depending on number of volunteers) until we release the fish. Each day during the school week from early/mid March through mid-April or early May (about 6 weeks), a parent volunteer will help the fourth grade students feed the fish during their lunch recess, from about 12:15 until 12:55 p.m. This entails supervising about 4 students who will feed the fish and check the water quality.

This is a special part of being a fourth grader, and the kids, the fish, and I appreciate your help. I will provide training on the feeding during a short session. So, if you can spare 40 minutes one day per weekplease consider volunteering.  You can contact me through email or call me at 425-556-0839.

Thank you!
Jeanie Hahn (PTA Salmon-in-the-Classroom Chair)
FAMILY DANCE PARTY - NEON GLOW THEME

It's almost time for the All School Dance!
The theme is:
NEoN  GloW

Friday, March 18th
6pm - 8pm
Redmond High School Cafeteria

Bring the whole family and dance with your kids (or watch them boogie with their friends) at THE event of the year. The black light photo booth is also making a return!

*Children must be accompanied by an adult - this is not a drop-off event.

We are looking for parent volunteers to help us in set up, ticket sales, concession sales and clean up.  Please sign up here on the PTA website today for a short shift. Time slots are only 45 minutes so you will still have time to boogie.

If you have any questions please contact:
Mary Anne Blake - Dance Chair

LOOKING FOR 4TH GRADERS TO JOIN SAFETY PATROL!

Attention fourth graders!  Are you interested in joining Safety Patrol?
Mrs. Mobley is currently looking for fourth graders to join Morning Safety Patrol.

Patrollers need to arrive to school by 8:05 each morning, so you wouldn't be able to participate if you have to ride the bus, unless of course, your parents can give you a ride to school.  If you participate in band or orchestra, that's not a problem, as I can set up a substitute for you the two mornings you would be gone for those activities.

If you are interested in joining Morning Safety Patrol, please sign up on the clipboard in your classroom by Friday, February 26th.

For those fourth grade students that are interested in Afternoon Safety Patrol, those squads will start after spring break.

If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Mobley at: [email protected].
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT - THANKS VOLUNTEERS!

"Rockwell Theatre" was filled with a great audience of families.

Thank you to our family of volunteers, too! You all did a wonderful job.

Who wants to have another movie night?

APRIL 26TH BOND MEASURE INFO
LWSD seeks funding for more schools & classrooms.

Lake Washington School District is growing rapidly. In fact, it has grown from the sixth largest district to the fourth largest district in the state since last year. The district has grown by over 3200 students in the last five years. That's an average of over 625 students per year for the last five years, which is equivalent to five large elementary schools. Growth is projected to continue, reaching over 30,000 students by 2020-21 and over 32,000 students by 2029-30.

To meet these growing needs for classroom space, the district's board of directors voted on January 25 to place a bond measure on the April 26 ballot. This measure, for $398 million in 20-year bonds, would fund
the most immediate, high priority needs. The total tax rate will be maintained at the 2015 rate.  Read more.

Please come to  Rockwell's General PTA Meeting on Thursday, March 24th at 7pm to hear more about this bond!   We will have a speaker and hold a General membership vote regarding the Rockwell PTA's possible support and/or endorsement of the bond.
