VISION AND HEARING SCREENING DAY VOLUNTEERS

Rockwell's Vision and Hearing Screening Day will be on
Thursday, January 14th.  MANY parent volunteers are needed to make this day go smoothly for students and staff.  No experience is necessary.  School nurses from the district will train parent volunteers in screening.  A school nurse will recheck any child with a questionable screening result.  The only requirements are your time, willingness, and being an approved volunteer with the district.  Sorry, but no preschoolers/toddlers/infants are allowed to come along for this volunteer opportunity.

We are in need of volunteers for a morning shift (8:15-11:15am) or an afternoon shift (11:45am-2:00pm), or come for the full day (8:15am-2:00pm) for double the fun!  Lunch will be provided for full day volunteers.

You can sign up to volunteer here on the Rockwell PTA Website.

Please contact us  with any questions.

Thank you,
Jan Stemple and Karen Hernan

FEEDBACK FOR LWSD - SURVEY
We Value Your Feedback

One of the goals of Lake Washington School district is to engage our communities. We welcome and value parent and community feedback, and each year we administer two district-wide parent and community surveys:

1.     An annual climate survey
Each year we survey parents and community members to seek feedback about school learning environments, academic standards, communication, student support and more. This district and schools carefully reviews the feedback collected each year to help inform our continuous improvement processes. It helps us to understand what we are doing well and how we can continue to improve. This survey was last administered in spring of 2015.
You can see the results from last spring's survey by clicking here.  We are now moving this survey to the fall, as we have another survey in the spring that focuses on specific program efforts.

2.    An annual program survey
Each spring we survey parents to seek feedback about specific district programs and initiatives. The district carefully reviews the feedback collected each year and uses it to help inform our strategic planning processes. Look for this survey in spring 2016.

In addition for many years our district has had an ongoing telephone poll in place. Pacific Market Research places calls on behalf of the Lake Washington School District to seek feedback from parents and community members. We regularly review the feedback collected and analyze the data trends over time.

Fall climate survey launching now:  Since we are moving the annual climate survey to the fall, your chance to weigh in is happening now. In order to participate,  Click on this link   or past this link into a web browser:  http://www.k12insight.com/k/SsWYVTsQRURsPsPsP

Please feel free to forward the link to friends and neighbors. We would also like to hear from community members who do not have students in our schools. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes. The survey will close on Friday, December 18.

We appreciate your time. District-wide results from the survey will be shared on the "Your Voice" page of the district website. School-wide results for selected questions will be published as part of each school's annual report, which will be distributed to all parents next fall.

ATTENTION 5TH GRADE PARENTS - MIDDLE SCHOOL INFO NIGHTS ARE COMING SOON

Parents of 5th grade students: Middle School Information nights are coming up, both at Redmond Middle School ( Jan. 26 at 7pm) and at the district's variety of Choice Schools.

LWSD Choice schools are open to all students in the district. All of the district's choice schools offer rigorous academic programs and unique opportunities for student learning. Students must apply to be considered for enrollment in the school. Each choice school uses the district's common application. These schools are small by design so there are enrollment limits. A lottery and waitlist system is used to place students when applications exceed vacancies. As part of the application and lottery process, attendance at the choice school's information night is highly recommended. Applications will be available on the district and choice school websites.

Link to brochure on Choice Schools with descriptions of schools, DATES for all the info nights, and registration info. Most are in January, but EAS (Environmental and Adventure School) is coming up on 12/15.
EXPLORER COMMUNITY SCHOOL INFO NIGHT (ELEMENTARY)
Lake Washington School District parents are invited to Explorer Community School's Enrollment Information Night - Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Emily Dickinson school commons - 7040 208th Ave. NE Redmond, WA.  Attendance at this evening information night is highly encouraged for all families who wish to enroll a child for the 2016/2017 school year. We are unable to offer childcare; therefore this is an adult only evening.  Details regarding Explorer enrollment can be found HERE or call (425) 936-2533.
