HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM ROCKWELL PTA

Rockwell PTA wants to wish all our families a happy holiday season, winter break and safe travels. Many thanks and appreciation to those who have donated time and energy to our school, children, and PTA programs. We couldn't do it all without you! There will be lots of opportunities in the New Year for volunteering and we hope to see everyone get involved somehow throughout the year. Don't forget to mark your calendar for the January General Membership Meeting on the 21st.
See you in 2016!
SAFETY AT ROCKWELL AND NEW LWSD ALICE PROCEDURES FOR LOCKDOWNS

Dear Rockwell Families,

We take the safety of your children very seriously. Please read the attached letter about revised trainings that all Redmond Schools are doing this year to help us prepare for what to do in the event of a specific type of emergency. I urge you to follow the link and to attend one of our community meetings to learn more.

Additionally, we will be changing our building practices slightly with the new year. When students return from break, we will no longer have any classes line up inside the building in the morning. Ms. Toedtli, Ms. Rasmussen, and Ms. White will all communicate their new line up spots to their families and show the location to their students this week, and we will begin using these locations for line up when we return from break on  January 4.

If parents need to gain access to the school, please continue to use the main entrance by the office, and please - always sign in and out. Our staff is committed to safety, and need to make sure that everyone in the building should be here at all times. The outer doors will be opened by teachers to let their students in at the start of the day, but will otherwise be kept locked. If they are closed, students and parents must head to the main entrance to enter the building.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation, and very much appreciate your help in keeping Rockwell a safe school.

Principal, Norman Rockwell Elementary School

HERITAGE NIGHT - SPONSOR A COUNTRY/BOOTH
Rockwell's Heritage Night is quickly approaching on Jan. 22nd and is a wonderful opportunity for our families to learn more about our diverse community!

Approximately 15 "Country of Origin" tables/booths are available for anyone interested in participating. Participants will be given a tri-fold presentation board to decorate with interesting facts and artifacts from the country. Sharing music, games, and traditional clothing is also encouraged. There will be no food or potluck table this year (only prepackaged food or food prepared in a commercial kitchen is allowed).

Please contact Jennifer Myrick if you would like to sponsor a country/booth. Space is limited. This would make a great project for the winter break. More information and volunteer opportunities coming soon from the Heritage Night Chairs!

Thank you,
Jennifer Myrick/PTA CO-VP Events

VISION AND HEARING SCREENING DAY VOLUNTEERS

Rockwell's Vision and Hearing Screening Day will be on
Thursday, January 14th.  MANY parent volunteers are needed to make this day go smoothly for students and staff.  No experience is necessary.  School nurses from the district will train parent volunteers in screening.  A school nurse will recheck any child with a questionable screening result.  The only requirements are your time, willingness, and being an approved volunteer with the district.  Sorry, but no preschoolers/toddlers/infants are allowed to come along for this volunteer opportunity.

We are in need of volunteers for a morning shift (8:15-11:15am) or an afternoon shift (11:45am-2:00pm), or come for the full day (8:15am-2:00pm) for double the fun!  Lunch will be provided for full day volunteers.

You can sign up to volunteer here on the Rockwell PTA Website.

Please contact us  with any questions.

Thank you,
Jan Stemple and Karen Hernan
