Volunteers Needed Near Term
RM BEST Kit Team and RM BEST Game Field Builder Volunteers, RM BEST Venue Lead Positions, and Volunteers to Help Start a New Hub
RM BEST Monday Kit Team: If you have a few hours of free time mid-day on a Monday this summer, this team is a perfect fit for you. The Kit Team is counting, testing, and cleaning returned 2014 kits to prepare for 2015 kit activities and labeling Best Buy Foundation grant kits in our new workshop. They will soon start 2015 unique preparations. They meet most Mondays at 999 Vallejo St #2 (Unit 34) in Denver near I-25 and 8th Avenue from 10 AM - 3 PM with a lunch break at a local restaurant. They can always use an extra hand and no experience or specific skill is needed. If interested, please contact Carolyn at email@example.com for more information.
RM BEST Game Field Builders (Mid-July - August): If you would like to help create the 4 quadrant game field that the robots navigate during competition, please contact Carolyn about this opportunity. We'll work with you to match the game field component to you depending on the time you have available, your skill level (some components are very simple), and the tools required. We'll provide you all the materials to build your section of the game field you provide the labor and any required tools. You'll use BEST provided drawings to construct and assemble game field pieces. We expect to have final drawings available by early July with construction in July and August. Full assembly of all components and testing must be completed at least two weeks prior to 12 September Kickoff. Multiple separate components permit multiple independent helpers to separately construct their components. Tools needed could include the following depending on component: saws to cut plywood, lumber, foam, and PVC; wood sander; paint brushes; drill; and screw drivers. Skills needed include: read drawings, construct using tools above, and assemble components with glue (PVC), screws, and hinges. The draft game field drawings were well done and the game field is easier to construct than last year's game field. If interested, please contact Carolyn at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
RM BEST Venue Lead (Now - October): Work with other Rocky Mountain BEST leads and volunteers to establish the venues for the Rocky Mountain BEST late July Teacher / Mentor Institute, September Kickoff event, and October Practice and Game Day events. We estimate the effort to require approximately 4 hours per week. Please contact me at email@example.com if you are interested in learning more about this position.
NEW BEST Robotics Hub in 2016 (Now - December): We are working with individuals in the Pikes Peak and Central Colorado areas about starting additional Colorado BEST hubs in 2016. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you, friends, or family are interested in working with these individuals to establish new BEST hubs in these locations.
Front Range BEST Hub Volunteers (Now - October): The new Front Range BEST hub needs volunteers to help their Hub Development in Douglas County. Please contact Tami Kirkland at tami.Kirkland@frontrangebest.org if you, friends, or family are interested in working with this great group bringing another BEST competition to the Metro Denver area.
