We Are the Wibbly! A Tadpole's Tale by Sarah Tagholm
Recommended by Mrs. Murphy, for ages 3-8
OH MY CRIKEYS! This is a fun book to read aloud together! This tadpole has lots of big feelings as they change into a frog. Great for showing that changes happen to all of us, but not all at the same pace. Includes a summary of the frog’s life cycle.
This graphic novel is a stellar introduction for young readers with an interest in either poetry or dinosaurs. It follows a young Coelophysis, but don’t worry about pronunciation; each chapter starts with a guide for how to say the scientific name(s) of different dinos. The Dino Poet is trying to learn how to write poetry with help from his new friend Frog (who just doesn’t want to be eaten!). If writing poetry has been a real bore, this goofy dinosaur and his new froggy friend will turn it into a roaring good time!
The Unlikely Aventuras of Ramón and El Cucuy by Donna Barba Higuera
Recommended by Ms. Stephanie, best for ages 7-9
What if the monster under your bed wasn’t scary... but actually kind of confused?
Meet El Cucuy, a legendary boogeyman from Mexican folklore, who’s sent to scare a kid named Ramón into behaving. But guess what? Ramón isn’t scared at all! He’s way more worried about starting a brand-new school.
El Cucuy tries everything—glowing eyes, sharp claws, even super stinky breath—but nothing works! Instead, he ends up going to school with Ramón, causing hilarious chaos and learning what really scares kids.
This novel is about Hassan, a Muslim middle schooler, and his experience of celebrating the season of Ramadan. He is caught between everyday stuff like homework, sports, and video games and his family's religious and cultural beliefs. Hassan finds it difficult to navigate an American public school where the staff and students don't know what Ramadan is and feels like it's just easier to try and keep his traditions to himself than explain them to everyone.
This book is a graphic novel, and the format lends itself to the intensity of Hassan's emotions and brings an element of humor to the serious topic.

The Bad Guys are back! Bigger! And BETTER THAN EVER!! Only this time..... they’re good??
The Bad Guys 2 is an entertaining sequel with mastermind Wolf, safecracker Snake, disguise-guru Shark, expert-hacker Webs, and wild card Piranha, former criminals on the mend to become model citizens. But it’s hard to be good when you have to start your life from zero and the world expects you to be bad.
When the crew is framed for a series of crimes by an untraceable criminal known as the Phantom Bandit, they are determined to prove their innocence and are forced to be bad again. Will they revert to their old ways and prove the world right, or will they end up being the saviors the world didn’t know it needed?
The movie has a gripping storyline from start to finish with some great new characters introduced, loads of action, and the perfect amount of humor. It is basically an animated kid-friendly version of one of my favorite tv shows from the late 2000s, Leverage, where a group of former criminals use their top-notch skills for good. To quote their tagline, “sometimes, bad guys make the best good guys.”
