A Pew Research poll results found that 83% of Jewish Americans wanted abortion to remain legal and a 2016 Gallup poll showed that 76% of American Jews find abortion morally acceptable. In our view, it is a tragedy that a huge majority of mainly "progressive" (or as we say "regressive") Jews promote and support abortion on demand. When it comes to morality and the sacredness of human life, progressivism is toxic and led to nearly 63 million abortions and a disregard for human life, whether we are talking about abortion or assisted suicide.
Due to its pervasive influence over many decades, progressivism has even caused some observant Jews to rethink their views on abortion. They may state that Judaism is neither pro-life nor pro-choice, but "nuanced" (you hear that word a lot) and that abortion should remain legal for the hard cases. But this is wrong.
Of the hundreds of thousands of abortions committed every year, those to save the life of the mother count for less than 1%. Since abortion has been legalized, there has been an increase in violent crimes and rape. Disabled babies, including those with Down syndrome, are targeted for termination. In the United States, 67% of these precious babies are killed by abortion, as documented in this Life News article.
We feel there is nothing nuanced about the life of an unborn child. They have their own genetic material and DNA distinct from both parents. Unless a mother's life is endangered, abortion is never medically necessary.
Traditional Judaism is grounded in a pro-life pro-family moral ethic. It is difficult to find Jewish writers who speak for the value of human life, and for preserving the lives of unborn children. We've included the following articles and the video "Jewish Voices for Life."
