Artist Talk: Trying to make the Invisible Visible

August 11, from 12 to 1 pm


Artist elin o’Hara slavick will discuss her work in our current exhibition, darkroom manipulated photographs of Persimmon trees in Fukushima heavy with contaminated fruit.


These images are from the ongoing project After Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Fukushima, in which slavick attempts to make visible the links between nuclear power and weapons, the deadly power and subsequent loss as a result of radioactivity, war and the aftermath, death and survival, trees as witness, and much more.



This program is free, however, registration is required.

Roger's Bird-Day Bash on August 19!


We’re celebrating Roger Tory Peterson’s 115th birthday and throwing the party of the summer! Michael Glabicki, of Rusted Root, with Dirk Miller, will be performing outside on the back courtyard.


Doors open at noon. Local musician Miranda Wilcox will be opening up for Michael at 1:00 pm and Michael will take the outdoor stage at 2:00.


Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Over the Rainbow Food Truck and the RTPI bar.

Art After 5 featuring The Nicholas Nasibyan Duo


Join us on Friday August 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm for Art After 5 featuring The Nicholas Nasibyan Duo.


We're excited to welcome back The Nicholas Nasibyan Duo this month. Nicholas and drummer Michael Hibbler perform an eclectic mix of reimagined standards, with funky vibes and jazzy twists! They specialize in performing popular tunes from the 1930’s-1950’s. Some of Nicholas’ favorite artists include Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin, and Nat King Cole, just to name a few.


Included with each Art After 5 ticket is full access to the museum, along with a drink from the RTPI bar, charcuterie, and two hours of live music.

Plein Air Festival


The Roger Tory Peterson Institute Plein Air Festival is a two-day, open enrollment, plein air painting event in Chautauqua County, New York on Thursday, September 14 and Friday, September 15, 2023.


Artists will have the opportunity to discover the beautiful natural scenery of Western New York which inspired a young Roger Tory Peterson. Artists may paint at a variety of locations within the area, with suggested locations provided two weeks prior to the festival. Locations will include the Roger Tory Peterson Institute nature preserve, the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy, Audubon Community Nature Center, the downtown Jamestown Riverwalk, and Johnson Estate Winery.
