Good News! Zoning Examiner's Decision
"TEP- you gotta go underground!"
| |
The Zoning Examiner, following the February 13 hearing, ruled against TEP’s application to overhead three intersections, including the Broadway/Euclid intersection.
This is a really important step against TEP’s plan to overhead its Midtown Reliability Project with 75-135-foot industrial appearing poles and lines through the center of Tucson. TEP can, and they surely will, appeal the Zoning Examiner’s decision to the Mayor and Council. The Mayor and Council will then hold a hearing on TEP’s appeal and make its decision. It will likely be within the next two months. We'll let you know more as information becomes available.
Your support and your actions have been instrumental in bringing about this successful result with the Zoning Examiner. Thank you.

Park Avenue
Adams to Ft. Lowell - March through May
| | On Monday, March 3, KE&G Construction began the work contracted by Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM). Crews began the asphalt prep work which includes lowering manhole covers and follow by tree trimming operations. Paving: In mid-March, crews will mill (remove) the old asphalt and repave with new asphalt. Restricted to one travel lane and a pilot car. If you have any questions about the project call Project Manager Nick Germanos at (757)719-1618 or Public Information Coordinator Amanda Valenzuela at (520)600-8229. | | On Monday, March 3, KE&G Construction began the work contracted by Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM). RESPONSE FROM OUR JP TRAFFIC COMMITTEE:
1. Why has the road resurfacing taken so long? They started Jefferson Park (West of Fremont and East of Warren) and then just stopped.
"The Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility realized that, since we are a historic neighborhood, the water mains should be checked before they proceeded further. This process revealed that the water main on Edison, between Mountain and Cherry, needed to be replaced before the roadwork was done."
2. “The work on Edison’s water main should start before the end of the month, March 2025. It should last until approximately mid-May 2025. The work will consist of a new water main, new service lines and meters for the residents along this stretch. We will send out notification letters usually a week prior to the shutdown of the existing water main so that the residents are aware of the work and disruption of service. The contractor will place a 24 hour reminder notice (door hanger) the day before the shutdown of service will commence. Please keep in mind, we still need to determine the shutdown area for this neighborhood. The area that will be impacted by the shutdown of service may encompass a larger area than the scoped work. This is due to the condition of the water valves in the area. If we state that we will have a night shutdown, that will normally occur 9 pm to 6am. If we state that it will be during the day, that will normally occur 10am to 3pm.”
So, we can probably expect to see the street work commence sometime in early June. (Thank you, DTM Jim DeGrood and JPNA Cindy Doklan)
| | Phase 5/6 - How or when will Grant Road be finished? | |
See the letters sent at:
http://www.jeffersonpark.info/grant-rd-widening.html
Excerpt from Tucson Agenda concerning the RTA :
What is the fate of the Grant Road Phase 5/6 project that affects Jefferson Park, Samos, Campbell/Grant, and Catalina Vista? The entire Feb 8, 2025 Tucson Agenda was dedicated to the issue. Here's an important segment from the article:
"But there are eight other projects in Tucson that were part of the original RTA plan, but have yet to be delivered:
- Valencia Road - from I-19 to Alvernon Way
- Grant Road widening, Phase 5 and 6
- + five more
City and RTA officials dispute who is primarily responsible for these delays. And to further muddy the waters, political turnover in each of the jurisdictions means that current elected officials have a get-out-of-jail-free card by blaming unpopular decisions on their predecessors. RTA officials have floated that local governments could dig into their own pockets to fill the gap, but that is unlikely to happen."
