Jefferson Park Assn takes a stand against
138kV Overhead Lines thru JP
See the proposed location of the Vine Substation
| |
The Jefferson Park Neighborhood Assn Board sent a letter to TEP and will send one to the Board of Adjustment. Stating in part:
"Jefferson Park steadfastly opposes any consideration of running overhead lines and massive poles through our neighborhood. They should not be placed in residential neighborhoods and the substation should certainly be moved to a more suitable location. Undergrounding is the only consideration for the transmission lines in the heart of the city, thereby protecting the Tucson we want now and in the future." To read the entire letter go to: http://www.jeffersonpark.info/tep-138-kv-poles.
TEP has filed an appeal with the Board of Adjustment (BoA) challenging the 2021 decision by the Zoning Administrator that TEP must underground lines along a gateway route. The Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing to review and consider TEP’s appeal on Wednesday, October 25, at 1:30 PM. The hearing will be virtual only. It is important that as many people as possible attend, speak, and also make online comments prior to the meeting.
If you wish to speak at the virtual hearing, there are two steps.
1) Submit your request to speak no later than 5 PM on Tuesday, October 24th to DSD_Zoning_Administration@tucsonaz.gov Refer to Case # C10-21-09.
- Please note, you are not required to submit a request to speak. The Chair will provide the opportunity for anyone in the audience to speak at the hearing.
2) Attend the virtual meeting as shown below.
LINK: http://bit.ly/BoardofAdjustmentsPublicHearing
JOIN BY PHONE: (346) 248-7799 OR (720) 707-2699
MEETING ID: 889 7505 6744
PASSCODE: 130557
MEETING MATERIALS: https://bit.ly/BoAPHMaterials
Whether or not you attend the meeting, please consider submitting an online comment. To submit an online comment in writing, send an email no later than 5 PM, Tuesday, October 24 to: DSD_Zoning_Administration@tucsonaz.gov. Refer to Case # C10-21-09.
The bottom line: keep 85-110 pylons and overhead wires off gateway routes, out of neighborhoods and the center of the city, uphold the undergrounding ordinance, and expect TEP to subsidize the cost of the portion of the project that needs to be undergrounded.
Underground Coalition issues and talking points are also found at http://www.jeffersonpark.info/tep-138-kv-poles
