At the top of the bluff along the eastern side of the property, a row of twenty Washington Hawthorns will create a natural, thorny barrier to prevent people from using the bluff as an entrance or exit to the property. This reduction in foot traffic will help reduce the erosion of the bluff and the roots of the shrubs will help hold soil in place and increase storm water retention on the property. A row of raspberries along the manicured hawthorns will provide an additional—edible!—barrier along an edge of the large, existing ~14,750 square foot turf grass lawn, providing another reason why A Place of Provision Food Pantry will be a place people want to be!
