Children & Youth Ministries Weekly Update

A Liturgy for Writing a Newsletter

Earlier this year I was introduced to the books Every Moment Holy, by Douglas Kaine McKelvey. In the volumes are an assortment of Liturgies (prayers, really) for all different kinds of situations; each one reminding us that holy moments are not reserved just for reading the bible or sitting in church. The following are a small sample:

A Liturgy…

…Before Piano Practice

…For a Single Person Going to Church

…For Baking Bread

…For Those Facing the Slow Loss of Memory

…For Home Repairs

…For Removing Ones Wedding Ring

…Lament upon Finishing of a Beloved Book

…For Setting Up a Christmas Tree

…For Waiting In Line

…For One in Need of Courage Just to Get Out of Bed

After reading several of these books, I was taking my daughter to a concert in downtown Portland. I realized, on our way there, that I actually had no idea where we were going to park. As I started to feel anxiety creep in, I took a moment and thought, “A Liturgy For When You Don’t Know Where To Park,” and as I was driving I said a quiet prayer in my head. Did we find great parking? Well yes, we actually did. But more importantly, as I prayed, I was reminded that the night wasn’t about perfect plans, it was about time together. Taking a moment to spend with God about something as simple as where to park our car, actually framed and changed our evening together.

What Liturgy do you need, right now? How about a liturgy:

  • For Those Planning a Graduation Party
  • Before Mowing the Lawn
  • Before Submitting an RSVP
  • For Those Too Distracted to Study
  • For Those Working Through a Diagnosis
  • Before Visiting with In-Laws

Whatever the Liturgy is you need for the moment, don’t be afraid to say it.

This moment, right now, is given to us.

It is up to us if we want to give it to God.

Celebrating our High School Graduates

Please join us this Sunday at both services for Grad Sunday. Our service will be primarily led by our graduating seniors. This is a beloved tradition in the life of our church and we would love to share it with as many as possible. Please pray for those graduating, their families, and all those who love and support them.

The Columbia MomCo

We need your lids!

A variety of sizes is great; jar lids, paint can lids, bottle lids...ANY LIDS! Trying to create a few large, colorful sea animals!

We are also in need of 16.9oz empty water bottles, with lids, for a craft.

You can place them in the bin in the Gathering Area marked “VBS”

What are your kids learning?
