Children & Youth Ministries Weekly Update

Hip to Be Square

Moms self-report loneliness in staggering statistics, probably because they feel no one truly knows the truest version of themselves.

-MomCo Magazine

I’ll be honest, being awkward isn’t something that I try to be, it just comes naturally. One time I came inches away from hugging an Uber driver when he dropped me off at the airport. Another time I was leaving Trader Joe’s, deep in thought about one of my kids, and instead of saying to the checker, “Have a good day!” I grabbed the receipt and said, “Love you!” Needless to say, my personal response to next year’s MomCo theme, “MAKE IT AWKWARD” is: TOO LATE. ALREADY DONE.

First, let me offer an assurance that this group is not a bunch of women finding ways to do embarrassing things under the guise of connection, (that sounds a lot like middle school). But we are a group that allows women to be who they are, share only if they are ready and show up no matter what kind of state they are in. We laugh a lot and also go through a ton of tissue. Sometimes moms come to our meetings early, sometimes they show up an hour late, others stay chatting until the meeting is long over and everything is put away. We always say, “Whenever you get here, it’s just the right time.”

At the heart of next year’s theme is an encouragement to be honest, be vulnerable and create a space where others can do the same. This takes grace, trust, and hope. For women who are used to trying to make it perfect, making it awkward can be a challenge. At MomCo, we’ll figure it out together.

Another Great Year at Circle of Friends

Last week friends and family gathered to support their magnificent preschoolers for the End of Year Programs. This week, families picked up their kiddos from class for the final time of the school year, continuing the festive tradition of the Celebration Car Parade! What a gift these families and children are to our community.

Thank you to the amazing staff at Circle of Friends for loving these kids and families so well!
