Children & Youth Ministries Weekly Update

It's Not Too Late!

Drawing by Daisy Stegemiller, from the 2024 CPC Lenten Devotional

Looking for simple ways to refocus minds and hearts during Lent? It’s not too late! Here are some ideas to reorient ourselves during this special season.

1) Spend the next several weeks reading the book of Luke as a family. Luke has 24 chapters. That’s about six chapters a week. Maybe read a chapter together in the evenings. Or if your kids are older, spend 10 minutes before dinner reading the chapter individually and discuss during your meal.

Questions that spur conversation: What didn’t you understand? Are you familiar with this chapter already? Are there any verses you read more than one time? How is this relevant to us today?

2) Set aside a screenless, quiet hour (or 30 minutes…or 15 minutes)! Perhaps start the time with a quick prayer together, “Dear Lord, bless this time. Please turn our hearths towards you.” Fill the minutes with drawing and reading, Lego building or Play-Doh. If your kiddo needs to move, maybe take a walk or even a run. The goal is to create a space without the “noise of the world”, even if only for 15 minutes.

3) Refocus in small amounts. With your child, help them choose a word they hear all the time (dog, book, school, outside). Have them think of one of God’s simple truths; Jesus loves me. I am forgiven. God sees me. God knows my heart. We are ALL loved by God.

Have them think of this truth every time they hear their chosen word. It will take practice but they can do it!

4) Invite God into your space, out-loud. Invite Him into your day during breakfast. Invite Him into your conversation with your child during a conflict. Invite Him into your family time when you sit down to watch some TV at night. Inviting Him in will remind your child of two wonderful truths; God is always present and how simple it can be to pray!

Thank you to the Children’s Choir for beginning our worship on Sunday!

Join us for an informative one-time seminar on “Ethical Wills” and various options for charitable giving. This event is presented by the CPC Foundation.

Our guest speaker is Rob Hagen who is in Ministry Relations for the Presbyterian Foundation. He meets with donors to assist them in making gifts to support their church and other ministries. Before joining the Foundation, Rob was serving as Pastor and Head of Staff at multiple churches in Kennewick, WA; Raleigh Hills, OR; Fresno and Glendora, CA.

The CPC Foundation is a separate non-profit organization formed to provide long-term financial support for the Church’s future. The funds under their management are invested with a financial planner and in shorter term instruments. The Foundation distributes annually the earnings from the portfolio to the Church to supplement the operating budget.

What are your kids learning?

K2 Live

Wednesday, 6:00PM

We are traveling to Japan for our unit learning about Responsibility. Through Responsibility, kids will discover the importance of being responsible. We will explore these questions:

Who counts on me? Will only my best do? Can I ever quit? Does God count on me too? What’s the reward?

We’ll “visit” Japan, where we’ll meet Terry Yummy, a chef wannabe who doesn’t realize the importance of being responsible. In spite of herself, Terry begins to understand that being responsible is an important life skill.

Our Life Verse: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for people. (Colossians 3:23, NIV)

The Point: You can count on me!
