The hallway is still bright and beautiful, and the bulletin boards still burst with color and joy. But something’s missing - someone, really. A whole bunch of little someones who usually fill this hall with laughter, questions, songs, and the occasional very serious conversation about dinosaurs.
As a preschool director, I’m used to constant noise. I’m used to hearing a dozen little voices all at once. I’m used to giggles, kneeling down for sweet hugs, and chatting with our incredible parents at drop-off time. But when June arrives and the classrooms are empty, and our hall is quiet, it hits me how much I truly miss them.
It’s not just the kids I miss - it’s the teachers and the parents, and the daily chaos that somehow makes perfect sense, the tiny milestones we celebrate that feel huge: a first time writing their name, a kind word shared with a friend or the face I see on a child when I tell them how beautiful or handsome they look today. These little things add up to the heartbeat of our preschool.
I miss overhearing a child softly singing during playtime. I miss the way they call out “Watch me!” a hundred times a day and mean it every single time. I especially miss hearing and seeing the children pray before they eat snack. It is the sweetest sight you will ever see.
More than anything, I miss their presence - their bright eyes, their curiosity, and the honest way they approach the world. Being away from them reminds me that this work is not just about schedules or learning your ABCs and 123s. It’s about connection. It’s about community. It’s about love.
To our parents reading this, thank you for sharing your children with us. You and your little ones are missed more than you know, and I’m counting down the days until the classrooms are filled again with the joyful noise of preschoolers.
Until then, I’ll be here - missing them, praying for them, and keeping their little masterpieces taped up on my wall. Because once you’re part of our Circle of Friends family, you’re always a part of it.
If you’re still searching for a loving, Christian-based preschool (or know someone who is), I’d be so happy to talk with you! Give me a call or send an email - I’d love to show you around our special little school where connection, faith, fun, and learning are at the heart of everything we do.
With love and anticipation,
Ms. Laura Ericcsen
