Children & Youth Ministries Weekly Update

Youth Back to School Retreats

Over the past two weekends Middle and High Schoolers got to share in two amazing Back to School Retreats at Camp Tadmor! We played night games, signs, watched movies, caught crawdads, found some snakes, enjoyed quiet time, and worshipped God together.

During Middle School BTSR we talked about the three “lost” parables of Jesus; the lost coin, son, and sheep. Throughout the weekend we read Luke 15, and we shared how in each of these stories we are found by God even if we lose our way.

For High School BTSR we worked through Matthew 5:13-16 where we are taught that God calls us to be the salt and light of the earth. We explored what it means to share the gospel with others and how we can all be cities on hills.

Back to School Retreat was a quick reset to the beginning of the school year. I am thankful that we had two great weekends at Camp Tadmor!

Reminder: New Child Check-In Process

Parents of nursery-5th graders, please remember to check your children IN for all CM events (including Children's Choir, K2 and Sunday School) at the iPads at the Welcome Desk or the Nursery.

Also, K2 parents, remember to come into the Gathering Area to pick up your child so that Anna or a leader can check them out.

Parent's Night Out is Friday, November 3, 5:30-8:30PM. Are you able to volunteer? Please sign up here!

Registration for children opens 10/16.

The Book Fairy visited Circle of Friends Preschool this week and will be finishing up her October reading next Thursday! She read the book Stumpkin, and we talked about God’s plan for us being the best plan for us (Jeremiah 29:11).

Children's Sunday School Updates

All children Preschool-5th grade are invited and encouraged to attend Sunday School and may join at any time during the year.

We ask that parents fill out this contact form (Click Here), to ensure they can be properly checked in. Thank you!

We need four more teachers before we can begin offering a 10:30AM Sunday School. Please email Tifny Mathena if you feel God is calling you to serve in this way.

What are your kids learning?

K2 Live

Wednesdays, 6:00-8:00pm

Next week, the kids and their leaders will begin a new unit, traveling to Egypt and studying the theme of Self-Esteem. The key memory verse for our five weeks in Egypt is Psalm 139:14, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Children's Sunday School

Sundays, 9:00-10:00am

Pre-K & Kindergarten

This month, preschool and kindergarten are studying Genesis 1: GOD MADE EVERYTHING

Questions to ask your child:

  • What did God make? (light, the sky, the dry lands and the sea, plants and trees, the sun moon and stars and human beings)
  • What is God’s “very good”, best creation? (That’s us! Humans are His only creation made in His image.)

1st-5th Grades

The students began a two-week introduction to Genesis, and are learning how the Old Testament stories point us towards Jesus. They also joined the congregation in the Sanctuary for Communion.

Memory Verse: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.’” -John 1:1 (ESV)

Questions to ask your child:

  • What is the first book of the Bible? (Genesis…bonus points if they can remember Moses is credited as being the author.)
  • What does the word “Genesis” mean? (The Beginning)
  • Can you child think of a story from Genesis? (The Creation story is the one we are currently working on. But in this introduction we are also touching on Adam and Eve, Noah and the Ark and the family tree of Abraham.)

Parents,

Do you want to start reading the Bible, but feel overwhelmed by the idea of starting such a large book?

Join us this fall as we start at the very literal Beginning! Pre-K through 5th Grade will be exploring different aspects of the book of Genesis (the first book of the Bible that talks about the beginning of mankind) during Sunday School.

Don’t have a Bible? WE HAVE MANY. Find Tifny after church and we’ll make sure you have one to call your own. God’s Word was written for all of us. Let’s read it together!
