Many families will agree that getting to worship service can be difficult. In the summer, it can feel impossible. As a staff, we truly look forward to worship on Sunday mornings, and believe in the power and sacredness of this time together, growing in community. But this time of year, travel, late nights, schedule changes and visiting family and friends can make this feel exceedingly hard. The good news (and there is ALWAYS good news around here), is that “church” isn’t a place…it’s a people. And worship (showing reverence and adoration to God, loving, honoring and obeying the One that deserves our highest regard), can be done by our families anywhere; together on Sunday morning and at 5:23pm at your kitchen table.
Have you ever considered these things as acts of worship?
- A conversation with a teenager about faith.
- Singing VBS songs in the car.
- Praying together as a family (or with friends…or alone!) before mealtimes.
- Reading scripture from a children’s bible or an iphone app.
- Drawing, painting or crafting and relating it to a bible story or truth.
- Prayer and/or gratitude journaling.
- Reading and considering an online, encouraging newsletter from a church ministry. 😉
- Creating a playlist of your family’s favorite worship songs and listening to them together.

Don’t be afraid to start small. Don’t be afraid to go big! We can find points of connection to God and to each other in many aspects of our daily life that are acts of honor, adoration, obedience and love. Don’t underestimate the power of intention. If it’s singing along with the congregation on Sunday morning, a quiet devotional over morning coffee with your teenager or staring at the waves on the beach with your six year old, humming Jesus Loves Me, may your summer (and life) be lead by worship.
And as always, we look forward to worshiping together with you and your family, whenever that may be.
