“Land is power.” — Malcolm X

And in our hands, it becomes nourishment, resilience, and legacy.

Grow Something Beautiful Inside and Out

Starting a garden is one of the simplest ways to bring more life, beauty, and balance into your daily routine. It’s not just about growing plants; it’s about growing something within yourself, too.

There’s a quiet satisfaction in planting a seed and watching it transform over time. Such is Life! Gardening teaches patience in a world that often feels rushed. You begin to notice small changes; the first sprout, the deepening color of leaves, the rhythm of growth and those moments can feel surprisingly grounding.

It’s also a powerful way to reconnect with nature. Spending time outside, working with soil, sunlight, and water, can reduce stress and improve your mood. Even a few minutes tending to plants can feel like a reset button for your mind.

On a practical level, a garden can provide fresh, flavorful food right at your fingertips. Fruits, vegetables, and herbs grown at home often taste better because they’re harvested at their peak and you know exactly how they were grown.

Our program will support your journey. Sign up and grow!

In the end, a garden doesn’t just change your space. It changes your perspective.

Harvesting Equity: A Program for Access and Ownership

Our hemp growing program is rooted in a commitment to advancing equity in agriculture by expanding access and opportunity for Black farmers and communities. Recognizing the historic barriers to land ownership, capital, and market participation, we provide hands-on training, technical support, and pathways to ownership that empower growers to build sustainable, generational wealth. By centering culturally informed practices and fostering cooperative networks, the program not only supports successful hemp cultivation but also strengthens community resilience and self-determination. Through intentional partnerships and resource sharing, we aim to ensure that Black agricultural producers are not just participants in the hemp industry, but leaders shaping its future.

Our program’s influence reaches far beyond economic outcomes. It nurtures healing, restoration, and a deep reconnection to the land; reviving traditions of stewardship, autonomy, and collective care that have sustained communities for generations. The achievements of our graduates show what is possible when access, resources, and community support converge. This initiative does more than teach. It sparks lasting transformation, cultivating the foundations for generational wealth, resilience, and enduring impact far beyond the classroom.

Rooted in Purpose: The Start of Our Growing Season

Something powerful is beginning.

We’ve started seeds for the upcoming growing season; each one a promise of nourishment, resilience, and community. Through our work supporting healthy Black agriculture, these seeds represent more than crops. They represent legacy, learning, and growth rooted in purpose.

As we nurture them, we’ll also be nurturing knowledge, connection, and opportunity. This is a journey we take together; growing food, growing skills, and growing stronger as a community.

Join us this season. Get your hands in the soil, learn alongside us, and be part of something meaningful from the very beginning.

We’re thrilled to share that we’ve partnered with JustVeggiez and Wonka’s Harvest! This partnership will enhance food access for Black families in Madison by linking JustVeggiez and Wonka’s Harvest’s networks with opportunities to directly support our work—fueling education, advocacy, healing spaces, and pathways for Black growers. We’re deeply thankful to our new partners for joining us in fostering equity and nourishment throughout our community. Saturday on The Square

The Saturday Dane County Farmers’ Market brings fresh, locally grown food and community together in the heart of Madison, on the welcoming, tree-lined grounds around the Wisconsin State Capitol—known to many as “the Square.”

This producer-only market is powered by local farmers and makers, which means everything you see is grown or made by the people selling it. Because of this, popular items can sell out quickly—so coming early helps you get the widest selection and best experience.

Bring your family, friends, and reusable bags, and come celebrate culture, community, and fresh food together at one of Madison’s favorite shared traditions. More info
