Literally, in the case of this story: Earlier this year, our Senior Program Manager, Monica, learned that the team at ACE Resource Network needed to find a home for a large tree they had secured as part of a mental health campaign. The tree had spent the winter months in front of the Sacramento LGBT Community Center, where community members could hang heartfelt messages to support those struggling around the winter holidays. Now, it needed to be planted in a permanent place immediately.

"Having visited Food Literacy Center's new location recently, I knew they had a large open space that will become a community garden for the young people they serve — a perfect spot for the tree," Monica says. "I was so glad to connect the teams at these two organizations that I work with and admire."

Just a few days later, the tree was planted in its new home, where it's now providing shade to Food Literacy Center's activities — and standing as a testament to the power of community-rooted partnership.

Meet Kelly, our new Chief Philanthropy Officer
We are excited to welcome Kelly Siefkin, CFRE, to the Foundation as our Chief Philanthropy Officer. A key member of our leadership team, Kelly works with fundholders and other partners to inspire charitable giving that strengthens the capital area.
Q&A WITH KELLY
What inspired you to enter the nonprofit sector?
My parents modeled philanthropy my entire life, which continues to shape how I make decisions, commit to causes, volunteer my time, and remain involved in my community. The importance of service was ingrained in me during my childhood, especially through my involvement in 4-H. My year of service in AmeriCorpsNCCC — cutting trails, building homes, and working in schools — helped solidify my desire to work in the nonprofit sector post-college. Now, I love serving the community through my work.

What does "Inspiring Philanthropy" mean to you?
Helping others see the impact they can make — with a financial donation, gift of time, or willingness to be an ambassador. Anyone can create change; they may just need a bit of inspiration.
