March 2024 Edition

Time is Running Out!

Don't get locked out of the Service Report!

Three things you must do by 11:59 PM on February 29th!

(1) Sign the Memorandum of Understanding by February 29

This is the highest priority. *If you have not signed, you will not be able to log in to acesagmg.site (and thus access to the Service Report).* Log in to acesagmg.site to sign the MoU.

(2) Enter at least one (1) hour for 2023

Log in to the Service Report to enter your 2023 hours.

*You only need at least 1 volunteer or education hour to avoid lock-out.*

Don't even have 1 hour for 2023, but plan to enter hours for 2024? That's ok!

Contact one of the following SuperAdmins to unlock your account: Bethany O'Rear, Amy Weis, Linda Massey, or Rick Cybulsky

(3) Pay your Membership Dues

The Jefferson County and AMGA dues deadlines have passed, but you can still pay your dues. Go to the Dues tab of the JCMGA website for payment options.

Not sure if you've paid? Contact Cindy Funderburk, Association Treasurer.

It may take a few days for your payment to be received and registered, so please be patient.

If you have not paid your dues, but have signed the MoU, you should be able to log in and enter hours, but access to other parts of the website may be limited.

Director's Minute:

From a New-ish Master Gardener

by Janet Humphreys - Secretary

I completed the Master Gardener intern program in 2022. I have met some of the most wonderful people through my internship and with JCMGA. We are from different backgrounds and garden experiences but the thing we have in common is our love for plants and gardening, whether these are vegetable or ornamental.

IN MEMORIUM

The Jefferson County Master Gardeners Association has lost a long-time member, Bill Burnham.

Bill regularly volunteered at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, and was known for his beautiful camellias.

OTHER NEWS

Update from the Fern Society:

Slayers of Invasives!

On February 10th, The Fern Society coordinated 20 volunteers removing six types of evergreen invasive plants from the Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ Fern Glade. This included 7 Master Gardener Interns, 13 Birmingham Fern Society members, some of whom are also veteran Master Gardener volunteers. They dubbed themselves the “Slayers of Invasives”! On March 16th you too can become a Slayer of Invasives. For lunch we’ll enjoy Crock-pot Lasagna in the Fern Glade. We are clearing the area to plant ferns and companion plants. Contact Charles Murray to join. Pictured Right: Allison Dogan, 2024 Master Gardener Intern, holds a huge Smilax tuber, a thorny, aggressive vine.
