Summer Explorations Camp Guide
The 2021 Summer Explorations Camp Guide is available on RoperMountain.org, along with all camp information. In order to safely operate camps, all offerings will be at a reduced capacity so it’s important to ensure your registration is current and online access is working properly. Camps will be adhering to all CDC guidelines which will include social distancing and masks.
Online Only Member Registration
Member registration will only be online this year and begins at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 15. You must be signed in to your account to access camp registration. Before camp registration, it is important that you:
1. Have a current membership
2. Are able to sign-in to your account on our website.
We strongly encourage you to test your membership log-in before noon on Friday, March 12. We cannot guarantee that issues not resolved by that time can be addressed in time for you to get the camps you want.
To make sure you can successfully access your member account, click on the link below and follow the instructions.
Public registration opens online only at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17.
Upgrade To A Supporting Membership
Did you know that you could get the first opportunity to register for camps, even before basic membership registration?

MOUNTAIN HIGHLIGHT:
HOOPER PLANETARIUM
|
|
Friday Starry Nights are back! If you haven’t already heard, the Hooper Planetarium is now open to the public on Friday nights for this awesome event. We showcase two shows, one at 6 p.m. and one at 8 p.m. Proper COVID-19 protocols will be followed and include cleaning between the shows and masks required for all guests. (See our website for the full list of COVID-19 protocols).
The current 6 p.m. show is Earth, Moon, and Sun and discusses the relationships between these three celestial beings and some common misconceptions. The 8 p.m. show is Stars, which explores the life cycle of stars and investigates topics such as nebulae, black holes, and more. These shows will run through April 2, with two new shows beginning in rotation on April 16. Note: we will not hold a Friday Starry Nights event on April 9 due to Greenville County Schools being on Spring Break.
Tickets are $6 for adults and teens, $5 for children, military, and senior citizens, and free for any Roper Mountain members! Seating is limited due to COVID-19 restrictions so head over to our website and secure your tickets now!
In addition to Friday Starry Nights, we are planning to bring back our Laser Days of Summer! Aug. 5-7 and 12-14 will have various laser light shows highlighting artists such as Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and more. Tickets are $8 for the public and $4 for Roper Mountain members.

…that March 22 celebrates World Water Day? Within the new Environmental Science and Sustainability Building, we will celebrate “Our Water Story” every day through exhibits and lessons. Our Water Story exhibit will show all the different ways water benefits our lives and how we can better protect this vital resource.
|
|
In the Greenville area, we are lucky to have the cleanest water available, due to our protected forested watersheds in our mountains, managed by Greenville Water. The watershed of Table Rock Reservoir –one of three mountain watersheds providing our area’s water – will be highlighted in an exhibit guiding visitors on a journey through the water cycle and a watershed. An interactive wall exhibit will also show the water treatment process and the operation of the distribution system of Greenville Water.
Another major donor and partner in our Water Story exhibit is ReWa. Their mission of transforming wastewater into renewable resources and safeguarding our water environment will also be displayed.
Thanks to Greenville Water, ReWa, and other partners, we will be able to celebrate “Our Water Story” every day when our Environmental Science and Sustainability Building opens soon.

Give Back To Roper Mountain:
Even with hallways and learning labs temporarily emptied of our students and visitors, we are continuing to do all we can to keep students, visitors and staff of Roper Mountain safe and connected. There is no question that this year will provide unique opportunities for our community to connect in new ways while meeting the challenges of the way things are in the world now. School lessons and public programs are being re-tooled to be delivered online; lessons are being created to help establish state standards in environmental science and sustainability; animals throughout our facility are being cared for daily; and our staff are collaborating in exciting new ways. A donation from you will help move our mission forward and lay the foundation for future success.
