Dear Rosa Coplon Living Center Family Members and Responsible Parties,
The health and safety of everyone in our Rosa Coplon Living Center is of utmost importance to us. And as you have seen, we are committed to providing complete, factual, and timely information about the impact of the COVID-19 virus.
I am writing to let you know that as of today, April 14, Rosa Coplon has four residents who have tested positive for COVID-19.
The residents and their family members were personally notified.
We immediately took the following steps:
- We placed the residents in quarantine to minimize the chance for the virus to spread. Staff members interacting with the residents are using all recommended precautions to protect the residents and themselves from spreading the virus, including the use of additional personal protective equipment.
- We screen all staff daily for symptoms.
- We continue to clean and disinfect all areas.
- We continue to take every step recommended by authorities to protect our residents and employees. We are continually monitoring updated guidance and immediately implement any new protocols suggested by local and state public health officials and the CDC.
- We continue to screen all residents for fevers every 8 hours and monitor for signs and symptoms for the virus on every shift.
- All employees continue to wear masks and other personal protective equipment as appropriate at all times.
- We continue to practice social distancing with all residents by staying a minimum of 6 feet away from others.
In addition, it is our practice to contact local public health officials and to inform them of both confirmed or suspected cases and the steps we are taking. You will be comforted to hear that they fully support the protocols we have in place.
I want to reassure you that we are on top of this rapidly evolving situation that is impacting everyone in the Buffalo area
.
We are in constant contact with the Erie County Department of Health and the regional office of the New York State Department of Health as they gather more information about the spread of the virus and provide additional guidance about how we can best protect and care for our residents.
We know there is significant spread of the virus in Erie County. You can be exposed to COVID-19 anywhere. You don’t have to be a patient or an employee in a health care setting to catch the virus. You don’t have to be a resident or an employee in a nursing home to be at risk. It can happen anywhere. Nonetheless, we know older adults are more at risk and we know we have a solemn responsibility to do all we can to protect people who have entrusted their care to us. I am confident we have put the right protocols in place and that our staff are focused on maintaining the health and safety of your loved ones every day. I also urge you to continue to take all recommended precautions to protect yourself.
