The social work department plays an important role in resident life at Rosa Coplon Living Center. Julie Smith, Director of Social Work, explains why.
What is the role of the social work department?
We assist residents in their adjustment to our community, as well as facilitate and advocate for their needs and concerns.
What are your responsibilities?
I am in charge of admissions and performing psychosocial assessments, as well as care planning, discharge planning, and serving as the liaison for community referrals. Throughout the pandemic we have also been offering and assisting residents and families with a variety of virtual communication with loved ones.
Who is on your team, and what do they do?
We have three social workers - Danielle Furgerson, Njegos Petrovic, and me. We all work together as a team to assist residents and make sure they have everything they need.
What are some fun facts about you?
In my spare time, my three kids keep me busy! You can find me running all three of them to their many sporting events. Njegos is pursuing a Master's degree in counseling at University of Buffalo, and he volunteers with Soccer Shots to help young children learn how to play soccer. Danielle is very crafty and enjoys woodworking.
