FBC Raleigh News July 8, 2019
ALL IN THE FAMILY

Fannie E.S. Heck and Sally Bailey Jones were best friends and members of our FBC family. They were born into homes where they were loved and life was as easy as it could be in the late 1800’s. They worked together to help others because they believed that social service was “an intrinsic part of the missionary enterprise.”
Fannie Heck, at the age of 24, was asked to preside over the Women’s Central Committee of Missions in North Carolina and at age 30 was elected president of the national WMU. She is considered to be the predominant force behind the WMU’s philosophies and ministries. The personal contributions of Fannie Heck ended in 1915 with her death, but her memory and the results of her visions remain with us. I wonder if 100 years from now if people will still speak our names for the work we do and the sacrifices we make to help others?
There are houses to build, people to clothe and children to feed. It’s our turn to hear the call and follow their paths of service. Please honor these women and give to this offering.

WMU President

All ages are invited to join us on Saturday, August 10,  at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, as the Carolina Mudcats take on the Salem Red Sox at 5pm .  A block of seats has been reserved just for us at $7 each, so let’s pack that block with FBC friends and family! It’s Marvel Super Hero Night at the stadium, and Captain America bobbleheads will be given out (while supplies last) when the gates open at 4pm. To secure your tickets, email Lynn . To pay for your tickets with a credit card, your options include the credit card kiosk in the lobby, PayPal , the church website , or the Give+ Mobile App on your smart phone. To pay by check, make it out to FBC and memo “Mudcats Tickets.” Come join the fun as we enjoy a baseball game as a church family!
NC BAPTIST ALL-STATE YOUTH CHOIR CONCERT

Join us for the NC Baptist All-State Youth Choir concert on Friday, July 19, at 1pm in our Sanctuary. We are hosting the choir for lunch in the Fellowship Hall, and they will share some musical selections with us following the meal. This is an auditioned group composed of high school students who attend Baptist churches across North Carolina. These students memorize 15 choral selections and travel the state for one week every summer presenting concerts in different Baptist churches. This year, their tour brings them to Raleigh! We are looking forward to hosting them for lunch and a concert. Leah Reed was in this group as a high school student, and she now serves as a chaperone every summer. If you are available to help with the set-up of the lunch, please email Leah. We hope you'll invite friends and neighbors to join us for this Friday afternoon opportunity to hear some beautiful choral music!

To see their other tour dates around the state, visit the NC Baptist All State Youth Choir website.
GA & RA BUDDIES

Amelia Wade, Broughton High School rising senior, is working on bringing back GA & RA Buddies for her Girl Scout Gold Award. In last week's publication, you can read her reflection and more detailed information on bringing back this program that has made an impact on so many of our children! If you are interested in being a GA or RA Buddy for one of our grade schoolers, please email Lynn , and she will get your message to Amelia. Sign-up sheets will be included in Sunday School boxes soon. More details to come!
FIRST FOUNDATIONS
MAGAZINE
ISSUE TWO

Issue two of the First Foundations magazine is hot off the presses and ready for you to read. Magazines are available in the Lewis Building lobby by the elevators and at both entrances to the Sanctuary. Feel free to get an extra copy for a neighbor who might like to know more about who we are as we continue to reach beyond our walls.

This publication is a true labor of love and would not be possible without the hours of hard work by our editorial team, writers, and artists!  We are so grateful for all of our contributors - Pam Powell, Phillip Lingafelt, Chris Chapman, Jen Foster, Debbie Willmschen, Lynn Marshbanks, Trey Davis, David With, Leah Reed, Meg Dare, Anne Bullard, and each person who attended the church-wide Caswell Retreat! We hope you'll enjoy this beautifully designed publication, with the fantastic graphic design work of Angie Dickinson . A very special thanks to Jen Foster, Anne Bullard, and Pam Powell , for their continued vision and hours of tedious work editing the magazine! We hope you enjoy reading about nourishment from a wide range of voices from our community of faith.
