Be an Informed Rose Buyer
2-Key Decisions to Make Before
Purchasing a Rose
  1. Grafted or Own Root: A typical grafted rose (center) is shown with several varieties of own-root roses. Note the difference in sizes and fibrous root systems.
  2. Container Size: Based on the grower's production preferences, you will find various-sized roses for sale. The most common options are bare-root, banded, 1-gallon and 2-gallon.

Benefits of a larger sized container

  • Adapts quickly to new environments and has higher survival rates
  • Fairs better in transit
  • Provides the gardener handling flexibility

  • Don't assume larger-sized containers equate to higher prices. In most cases, you will find these roses are similarly priced regardless of the size option.
