Service Spotlight

Rotary Club of Englewood awards a $1500 grant for Nurses for Hope for 2020-2021.
Rotary Club of Englewood President, Dr. Lisa Wisotsky presents Marie Magdeline Cazeau, founder of Haitian Alliance Community Action, with a check of $1500 towards the Nurses for Hope program on behalf of the Club on 12/11/20. Rotarians Berthe Rene Luke and Charlotte Bennett Schoen look on.
Health care is one of the most urgent needs in the rural communities surrounding Duplan, Haiti. The Nurses for Hope project currently has 4 young women successfully enrolled in nursing school Ecole Superieure d’infermieres Jeanne Mance du Canada in Haiti; our Rotary $1500 award pays for one nurse’s tuition for a complete year.

The initiative was presented by Englewood Rotarians Berthe Rene Luke and Charlotte Bennett Schoen. Per our Englewood club’s best practices, we established our connection with Rotary in Haiti last year — with Rotarian Gwenael Apollon who is director of YMCA D’Haiti and president of Aeroport Rotary.

The hope and goal is to open a local clinic in which these 4 nurses, with the help of doctors, will provide necessary preventive and emergency care, as well as public health education.
