Last week at RCSM...
Guest Speakers:
Tim Knight, Executive Director of Health Services and
Jackie Hurt, Certified Dementia Practitioner a
t
Park Springs, a Life Plan Community.
We learned that dementia is a collection of brain disorders of which Alzheimer's is a classification. Park Spring's
Pebblebrook was accredited and ranked the #1 Butterfly Model of Care practitioner in the world and individually diagnoses members (patients) for best care practices based on the member's culture. The most alarming information was that the brain degeneration can start as early as our 30's, but we can combat much of this by adopting a Mediterranean diet. However. the American pallet appreci
ates using spices of the Mediterranean with meat and other dishes we are more familiar with, like roast chicken - but we can still occasionally enjoy good southern fried chicken.

Bell Ringer for Salvation Army:
Saturday December 7th RCSM participated as bell ringers for the Salvation Army, our annual tradition. This year we participated in front of Walmart in Rockbridge Village of HWY 78. RCSM members participated by ringing the bells for donations for an hour: Rev. Doug and
Carolyn
Coil rang the bells whil
e Emma Brantley serenaded the crowd with her violin and Christmas carols. Other members who merrily rang the bells included Lizbeth Dison, Dora Jackson, Scott and Paula McEvoy, Michele Weston, Cynthia Edwards and Bud Schooler. We are grateful to all who participated and represented the club so well.
