Hello everyone,
At last the year with the Rotary theme ROTARY: MAKING A DIFFERENCE has begun. However, if you have been a Rotarian for any length of time, you would know what we have been doing forever is officially recognised. And it took the that guy from the RC Sandringham in Victoria Australia to state the obvious.
Karen and I would like to thank all of you who attended the District Changeover. A special thank you to Val and John Glenn and the few members of RC Dingley Village for their excellent organisation of the evening.
Last Saturday I had the pleasure of being at Lake Dewar near Myrniong to visit and meet all the participants of the RYLA seminar of 2017. A premier Rotary Youth Program delivered by a team of dedicated and hardworking folk.
This week we see the start of District seminars being organised to enable all Rotarians to gain better understanding of some of the Rotary programs we offer. On Friday 21st July we kick off with the Membership Seminar. Each Rotary Club is encouraged to send two members along to share the ideas and strategies being delivered by the hardworking and passionate Membership Committee.
Another event coming up is the Presidents meeting on the 4th August. Presidents do not forget to RSVP by the due date, otherwise you will miss out on hearing important news on many topics, particularly from the Indigenous and Trachoma 2020 Committees as well as the Environmental and Sustainable Committee. If you cannot attend please send a member of your Club along.
Karen and I sincerely thank all the Clubs, which we attended to celebrate your Changeover. We really enjoyed ourselves and appreciated your kindness and hospitality. We look forward to seeing the implementation of the many positive plans and programs spoken about.
We have started the journey of visiting each Club in the District and look forward to catching up with many of you. So until then, best wishes for another successful year of Making a Difference!

Sadly our beloved Harry Potter has died, presumed murdered. But who would commit such a heinous crime? All the guests are suspects but there is only one true murderer. It turns out that jealousy over Harry's Quidditch abilities is a major motivator for the crime. Death by Basilisk venom was the ultimate cause of death, but who delivered the venom?
This story has jealousy, revenge, a baby, magic and murder. One thing is for sure. Harry Potter is dead and you won't believe who killed him.

Challenge to Lead Program
19th, 20th and 21st October, 2017
The Rotary Club of Doncaster is seeking referrals from District Clubs for participants in their Challenge to Lead Program.
Why?
Throughout the District there is a pool of contacts and potential participants in management and professional positions who would either benefit themselves or recommend others who would benefit from the Program.
There is a high demand for good leadership. It is a must-have capability for any individual or organisation wanting to get ahead in the world and achieve and earn more.
Leadership can be taught, learnt and developed and this course will help in this regard.
What is it?
The Challenge to Lead Program is a 3-day residential leadership program run by the Rotary Club of Doncaster on
19th, 20th and 21st October, 2017.
The Program is delivered pro bono by dedicated professional facilitators including the former Director of HR for HP and Telstra, a Senior Fellow Melbourne Business School, an advisor to Mt Eliza MBA program and a Principal Fellow of the Melbourne University Business School.
In 2014, 2015 and 2016, participants came from a wide range of organisations including local government, multinational companies, not for profits (NFPs), statutory authorities and small to medium sized businesses (SMEs) and the program received many ringing endorsements.

Important News About RI PResident-elect
Sam F. Owori
Dear fellow Rotarians,
It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share the sad news that the President-elect of Rotary International, Sam F. Owori, died last night (14th July) as a result of post-operative complications from a planned surgery.
In this difficult time, I ask you to keep his wife, Norah, the Owori family, and Sam's millions of friends around the world in your thoughts.
Sam was a special person in so many ways, and his unexpected death is a huge loss to Rotary, his community, and the world. We will provide more details on plans to celebrate his life as they become available.
From the perspective of Rotary leadership, we will share information on the impact and the path forward as a result of Sam's passing. In addition, we are establishing a memorial fund in Sam's honour and will provide further details soon.

ABCD (Art Building Children's Dreams)
Presentations to District 9810 Rotary Clubs
Art Building Children's Dreams (ABCD) is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Templestowe to facilitate access to quality education for underprivileged children. The Rotary Club of Templestowe has developed partnerships with Deakin University, Aspirations Education Foundation and host Rotary Clubs through ABCD to facilitate projects in Sri Lanka (Ampara) including scholarship programs, agricultural self sustaining crops, IT Education, Sports Development, English language learning, et el. Despite many years of post-war economic growth in Sri Lanka, many of the rural parts of the country live in absolute poverty. A farming family in Ampara typically lives on around US$2 per day. Too often, rural children opt out of school as soon as they can and find work in subsistence farming. The poverty cycle and rural disadvantage continues and adolescents soon fall victim to numerous health and social problems besetting their communities (unemployment, malnutrition, domestic violence, drug addiction and youth suicide).
The ABCD Board together with Deakin University is interested in undertaking presentations to Rotary Clubs in District 9810 over the next 2017-2018 Rotary Year. This presentation may assist your club in identifying projects that may benefit from District or International Foundation Grants. The presentation will be jointly undertaken with Carl Jones from Deakin University.

Rotary in Action
Every Tuesday afternoon, every week of the year between 4 o'clock and 5 o'clock the "Rotary in Action" program spreads our Rotary message around the cities of Manningham, Banyule and Darebin.
"Rotary in Action" commenced broadcasting on July 4, 1995, and has been continuously on air for more than 1100 programs for almost 22 years.
"Rotary in Action" is a vibrant, magazine style format with studio guests and Rotary community announcements, occasionally mixed in with some great music.
Listeners enjoy the interaction between presenter and guest as they share the wonderful story of "Rotary in Action" via the radio band, on the internet and even connected through the various smartphone apps. The website reference to listen live is www.innerfm.org.au.
As a truly multi-District activity Rotarians from D9810, D9800 and D9790 continue the long standing tradition with the unqualified support of the 96.5 InnerFM Community Radio organisation.
The current presenters from D9810 are Greg King, Erik Rubens and Keith Anderson and, of course, their contact details can be found in the district handbook.
We welcome expressions of interest in joining us as a guest on the show, providing announcements for us to share with our listeners or even becoming part of the broadcast team.
