Rotman Initiative for Women in Business

This month's newsletter theme could have been selected as a nod to the winter weather we've endured; in actuality, we chose "resilience" because it's a trait that can make or break your career. Read this month's Member Spotlight to hear why Jennifer Lee, Partner, National OmniChannel Leader - Consumer Business, Deloitte LLP, identifies resilience as a critical piece to her career success and why she finds the trait so inspiring.

Also, we are delighted to share that BMO Financial Group has signed on once again as our Leadership Experts Speakers Series sponsor. Thanks to their support, we will be hosting awe-inspiring leaders throughout the year through our speaker series - thank you BMO!

Sincerely,

Initiative for Women in Business Team

Rotman Rocks the Financial Times' Full-Time MBA Program Rankings

The Financial Times published its annual global ranking of full-time MBA programs, and for the 11th time in the past 12 years, the Rotman School was confirmed as the leading school in Canada.

Once again, Rotman is one of only seven schools worldwide ranked in the top ten for both our Ph.D. program and faculty research. To be ranked with HBS, Wharton, Stanford, Chicago, Duke, and NYU  confirms our determination to be at the frontier of both the generation of new knowledge and the design and dissemination of innovative programming. See FT rankings

Dr. Beatrix Dart interviewed in CBC documentary, The Motherload

The Motherload takes an in-depth and new look at the subject of working mothers - the current issues, challenges and triumphs that come from trying or having to do it all. The documentary compares Canadian women's lives to their even more troubled American counterparts - where women are struggling with work-life balance and paying a heavy price with their health. Watch here

Jennifer Lee

Partner, National OmniChannel Leader - Consumer Business

Deloitte LLP

No one could ever accuse Jennifer of resting on her laurels.  She was the youngest person ever to be admitted into the Executive MBA Program at the Rotman School of Management and she has worked and lived around the world. Jennifer comes with a mix of management consulting and industry experience, having worked for a number of multinational companies including:

  • AT&T Asia Pacific in Mergers & Acquisitions in Hong Kong;
  • Hewlett Packard Europe in Stuttgart, Germany;
  • Universal Studios where she launched blockbuster titles in Canada;
  • Deloitte in Corporate Strategy & Operations;
  • Bell Canada where she helped launch Bell's first high speed wireless business in Canada; and,
  • Azerbaijani Microfinance Association where she lived and volunteered for six-months to help restructure the Azerbaijani Microfinance market.

What makes Jennifer's resume, noted above, so impressive is that fact that it was all by the age of 30.  Jennifer is now a Partner at Deloitte leading Deloitte's National OmniChannel Practice in Consumer Business. Even with all of these professional accomplishments and experiences, if you ask Jennifer what is most important to her, she wants to talk about her family, her love of volunteer work, her interest in martial arts (she is a 4th degree blackbelt in Shotokan Karate) and her love of literature.

Despite her demanding, and sometimes hectic, schedule, Jennifer is a strong supporter of the Rotman Initiative for Women in Business. Most recently, Jennifer was a guest speaker in the Athena Program. Following her talk, the participants were eager to meet up with her again, and glean more insights into her successful career.
