Community Update
October 7, 2022
Greetings!

Routt County is excited to continue our partnership with Steamboat Creates to identify, select and install public art that will decorate the interior of the new Health and Human Services Building at Oak Street and 6th Street in downtown Steamboat Springs. We are now inviting artists to submit proposals for artwork with a theme of “Being Human.”

Find the RFP and all details on the Steamboat Creates website. Proposals are due October 20, 2022 by midnight. A curatorial committee composed of a diverse and representative group of community members, arts professionals, government and creative district committee members will review all proposals. Selected artwork should be ready for installation by mid-April.

Contact Julie Kennedy, Routt County Purchasing Manager, at 970-870-5316 or
Kim Keith, Steamboat Creates Executive Director, at 970-879-9008 with any questions.

COVID-19 Update: All Routt County COVID-19 information can be found on the Public Health pages on the Routt County website. You can always check on COVID rates in Routt County by checking the COVID-19 dashboard which is currently updated weekly. It was updated October 7 to share the COVID-19 metrics and vaccination rates.

Monkeypox Virus (MPV) Update: People who have been recently exposed to the Monkeypox Virus (MPV), or are at high risk for exposure, should get an FDA approved vaccine called Jynneos. Routt County currently has a limited supply of the vaccine from the federal government. Due to the limited availability, Routt County Public Health is asking individuals to complete a screening form if they are interested in MPV vaccination. The screening form will be used to contact individuals that are eligible for vaccination and does not guarantee an appointment.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDPHE, and local public health officials continue to monitor cases of MPV in Colorado. Find updates, information and FAQs on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment website.

One Fun Thing
Sunday, October 9 - Full Hunter's Moon

The full moon of October, which will occur at 4:55 p.m. EDT, 1:55 p.m. PDT, or 20:55 GMT, on Sunday, October 9, is traditionally called the Hunter's Moon, Blood Moon, or Sanguine Moon. The Anishinaabe people of the Great Lakes region call this moon Binaakwe-giizis, the Falling Leaves Moon, or Mshkawji-giizis, the Freezing Moon. The Cree Nation of central Canada calls it Opimuhumowipesim, the Migrating Moon - the month when birds are migrating. The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois / Mohawk) of Eastern North America uses Kentenha, the Time of Poverty Moon. Full moons in October always shine in or near the stars of Cetus and Pisces. Since it's opposite the sun on this day of the lunar month, the full moon will rise at sunset and set at sunrise.
