Rowland Families Read Event Launches
The power of supporting and educating our @RowlandSchools families was evident in our first #RowlandFamiliesRead event. Video Link

On November 16, 2018, the residents of The Palms Apartments were provided with a literacy learning opportunity in their community center. That evening families came with their young children to find out ways to help their child with reading. Parents were welcomed by Rowland Unified District personnel and made to feel comfortable through the assistance of our District translators. Families who spoke Spanish and Chinese attended the event and were appreciative to have access to their native language. Parents were taught a variety of reading strategies and had the opportunity to put into practice those skills immediately with their children while receiving hands on “coaching” from Rowland educators.
"Being able to connect with families in their homes is another way that Rowland shows commitment to supporting students and family members. It was an uplifting time dedicated to learning for everyone in the room,” said Miriam Kim, Director of Community Outreach.
This was a powerful and purposeful event as Rowland continues to find ways to support innovative learning for all.

Rowland Gives Back to Our Community
As we enter this holiday season, compassion for others and acts of goodwill enhance our community of caring. For more than 45 years, Rowland Unified School District has worked together with our community groups in a Holiday Basket Program providing all of the necessary ingredients for preparations of special meals for families in need. Donating to the Holiday Basket Program is an opportunity to share with others less fortunate in our community.

The Walnut Valley Rotary Club and other community volunteers are conducting this Holiday Basket Program, with the assistance of Rowland Unified School District Employees; Rowland and Nogales High Schools Interact Clubs; and the Rowland, Nogales, and Santana High Schools ASBs. Our goal is to distribute baskets to 200 families in need within the District attendance area.  We are again asking for your support in these efforts through donations of canned and packaged non-perishable foods.
Please send your donations of canned and packaged non-perishable foods now through Wednesday, December 12 to your school or the District Office.
All donations collected will be distributed to those in need. We thank you!

Telesis Teacher Receives National Award
By Johan Schmitz, Principal of Telesis Academy
Telesis Academy Teacher Mrs. Brooke Reynolds being honored at the No Excuses University National Convention and chosen from over 9,000 teachers across the nation.
The No Excuses University Network (NEU) held its annual national convention this past October. Each year the NEU Network honors one teacher from the 9,000 members to receive the prestigious “Make the Family Proud” award. This year Rowland Unified was thrilled to find out that the honoree selected was Brooke Reynolds, fourth grade teacher from Telesis Academy !

Mrs. Reynolds was awarded the honor for being a model of the NEU Six Exceptional Systems. She was recognized for not only going above and beyond in each area of the systems, but also for opening her doors to colleagues across the state and helping others learn more about NEU. Mrs. Reynolds has fostered a unique and strong bond with Cal State Fullerton where student teachers become “buddies” to her students and give the children an inside glimpse into what university life is really like. The partnership she has established greatly impacts her students by providing them with a true connection to college by making college a real and tangible goal. Thank you Mrs. Reynolds for all you do for our students and truly embracing the philosophy of "After High School, Comes College!"
