Jefferson celebrated Go Red For Women on February 7th raising $106!

The American Heart Association's signature women's initiative, Go Red for Women, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women's heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally.

It's no longer just about wearing red; it's no longer just about sharing heart health facts. It's about all women making a commitment to stand together with Go Red and taking charge of their own heart health as well as the health of those they can't bear to live without. Making a commitment to your health isn't something you have to do alone either, so grab a friend or a family member and make a Go Red Healthy Behavior Commitment today. Click here to read more about Go Red for Women. Thank you Jefferson School for bringing awareness to this initiative!

Rox-THON gets their Flock on
Flocking is back at Roxbury! It will begin this fall and continue until the ground freezes, before resuming next spring; all weather dependent. While the fundraiser remains the same, the organization bears a new name. Putting more of an emphasis on our local community, Roxbury High School's mini-THON will now be known as Rox-THON. It is the same group of students working towards the same cause, however, a majority of our proceeds will now stay here in Morris County.

Starting this year, donations will go to Goryeb Children's Hospital (Morristown, NJ) and 30% of those proceeds will support pediatric cancer research and medical bills through Four Diamonds (Penn State Children's Hospital). Roxbury High School will also host its 7th Annual event to fight childhood cancer on Friday, March 13, 2020.

"Flocking is super simple! Flocking is when you harmlessly prank your friends by signing up for us to put a flock of plastic flamingo s on their lawn," explained Captain Holly Van Ness, a senior at the school.

If you would like to flock-a-friend, you can choose how many flamingos you want to migrate to your friend's yard for up to 48 hours. A small flock of only 10 flamingos is only $15, a medium flock of 30 for $25, or you can choose a large flock of 50 flamingos for $35. If you have a special occasion, you may also choose to request a specific date for an additional $15. Click here to read more on our website under "In the News".

Hundreds leap into Lake Hopatcong for charity
Scattered snowflurries and a light wind caused temperatures to hover in the mid-30s on Saturday, but the chilly weather did not damper the warm spirits and hearts of hundreds leaping into Lake Hopatcong, who shattered previous fundraising records to benefit programs for special needs individuals.  The 11th annual Leap in the Lake hosted by Lake Hopatcong Elks Lodge #782 drew close to 500 to the shores of Hopatcong State Park, who raised over $60,000 for special needs programs, according to Rick Gathen, the event chairperson.  Participants sported togas, tutus, T-shirts and even two-piece swimsuits, to plunge into the frigid lake - water temperature in the low 40s - to raise funds for Elks Camp Moore, a summer camp for special needs individuals between the ages of 7 and 21; and for other programs for those with special needs.

"We're thrilled," Gathen said about the event. "It's a wonderful way to help in the community."  Gathen, a past exalted ruler with Lodge #782 and past state president for the Elks, said he was amazed about the record-breaking climb to more than $60,000, following the stellar 2019 fundraising event, of $51,000 among approximately 400 participants. Veterans Sign Up Now! - Lake Hopatcong Veterans Cruise for 2020!
The date has been set as Saturday, June 27th for the 5th Annual Veterans Cruise on Lake Hopatcong, and that means the scramble for seats has already started for this special tribute to our veterans - America's heroes.  Each year Lake Hopatcong Cruises honors our veterans from the lake's four border towns - Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mount Arlington, and Roxbury - with a two-hour complimentary cruise around the lake, and a special tribute is paid to the veterans throughout the cruise as residents line the bridges and docks with waving flags in honor of the service that they have provided to our country.  This event is extremely popular with the Veterans and will fill quickly, so please contact your appropriate town representative to have your name added to the list as soon as possible. Last year in Hopatcong the first-come-first-served list filled within days and overflowed into a long waiting list. Click here to read more from Hopatcong Lake Regional News.

LHF Block Party seeks vendors and sponsors
The seventh annual Lake Hopatcong Block Party, is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Hopatcong State Park, 260 Lakeside Blvd., Landing, N.J.  Hosted by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, the event gives businesses and organizations a chance to showcase their work for thousands of guests. The day also features entertainment, numerous food options, live demonstrations, boat and mini-train rides, and an activity area for children.

"There's nothing quite like it, said Lee Moreau, event co-planner. "The Block Party has become an annual must-attend event for everyone who wants to celebrate the Lake Hopatcong area and learn more about the people and places that make it so attractive."

Vendors will have ample space to display their goods or services and food trucks will be accommodated in a designated area. Spaces are limited and typically sell out by mid-March, according to Moreau, who recommends early registration.  Booth space is available for businesses, crafters, organizations and non-profits, with costs ranging from $25 to $350. Discounts are in place for entities based in Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mt. Arlington or Roxbury, as well as for those who register by February 29. Click here to read more from Lake Hopatcong News.
