Morris County Prosecutors - Educate Roxbury Students on Bullying Issues
On January 24, 2020, Morris County Prosecutor's Office Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Samantha DeNegri and Detective Supervisor Patrick LaGuerre provided a presentation to the 7th and 8th grade students at Eisenhower Middle School in Roxbury.
Under the supervision of Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, the program came to fruition through the request of Eisenhower Middle School's principal, Paul Gallagher.
Supervising Assistant Prosecutor DeNegri and Detective Supervisor LaGuerre explained to the students what constitutes bullying and bias crimes, as well as the repercussions that may result from committing these acts, even later in life. Presenters stressed the importance of properly reporting instances of bullying, both in person and online, and exercising good judgement when it comes to what you post online or share with friends. Students from each grade participated throughout the program by asking questions and providing examples of the scenarios discussed by the presenters.
Prosecutor Knapp said "It is important to my office that the students of Morris County are properly educated on the dangers of bullying and bias crimes. We believe that all students have the right to attend school each and every day without fear".

RHS Senior raises $1700 for Children's Cancer Research Fund
Roxbury High School Senior William Fulton last October organized a Children's Cancer Research Charity Golf Day which was an all-inclusive fun day at Mt. Freedom Golf Center to raise funds for The Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Research Fund and the American Junior Golf Association's ACE Grant fund which provides assistance to aspiring young golfers. Thanks to his efforts he exceeded his initial goal and raised $700 more than expected, totaling $1,700 which was split evenly between the two organizations.
"Fulton, a member of the high school golf team and class president has organized this great opportunity for families to get out and play some golf for a good cause," shared RHS Golf Coach Dave Monaco last fall.
Be on the lookout for more upcoming events from Fulton so Roxbury residents can continue to help support the important research being conducted in an effort to treat and cure Osteosarcoma, one of the most common childhood cancers.
Funds raised not only supported the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Research Fund but impacted other junior golfers through the ACE Grant program. The donation to the ACE Grant program helps junior golfers with a desire to better their life through playing junior golf and earn a college scholarship.

Rox-THON gets their Flock on
Flocking is back at Roxbury! It will begin this fall and continue until the ground freezes, before resuming next spring; all weather dependent. While the fundraiser remains the same, the organization bears a new name. Putting more of an emphasis on our local community, Roxbury High School's mini-THON will now be known as Rox-THON. It is the same group of students working towards the same cause, however, a majority of our proceeds will now stay here in Morris County.
Starting this year, donations will go to Goryeb Children's Hospital (Morristown, NJ) and 30% of those proceeds will support pediatric cancer research and medical bills through Four Diamonds (Penn State Children's Hospital). Roxbury High School will also host its 7th Annual event to fight childhood cancer on Friday, March 13, 2020.
"Flocking is super simple! Flocking is when you harmlessly prank your friends by signing up for us to put a flock of plastic flamingo
s on their lawn," explained Captain Holly Van Ness, a senior at the school.
If you would like to flock-a-friend, you can choose how many flamingos you want to migrate to your friend's yard for up to 48 hours. A small flock of only 10 flamingos is only $15, a medium flock of 30 for $25, or you can choose a large flock of 50 flamingos for $35. If you have a special occasion, you may also choose to request a specific date for an additional $15. Click here to read more on our website under "In the News".

PSA: Anti-Idling at District Schools Reminder
Winter is here...Just a quick PSA from your district green team. Last January, Roxbury Board of Education passed a resolution regarding the district's anti-idling initiative.
Part of the resolution included the following bullet points. All those in bold and in red are what our transportation department and district have already been doing. Not bad and we're on our way to better!
- Turn off school bus engines while waiting to load and to unload students
- Turn off vehicles when parents are parked and waiting to pick up and drop off children
- Installing "idle-free zone" signs at school drop-off and pick-up locations
- Use the newest buses for the longest routes and maintain buses properly to eliminate any visible exhaust
- Complete school-bus driver training on eliminating idling
- Encourage parent, student, faculty, and staff drivers to turn off their engines after 10 seconds if they plan to remain at a location for more than 30 seconds, particularly at school drop-off and pick-up times.
Let's all work together for a cleaner future! Follow our initiative online
