Superintendent Communications on Opening Day & the rSchoolToday App
Dear Roxbury Families:

We've had an exciting few days! Thank you to all of the parents who joined our teachers in learning over the past couple of days. These events mark a first in the history of education and certainly reiterate that we are all in this together - whatever it takes.

It's been wonderful to walk down the halls and into classrooms to see the smiling eyes of our teachers. One teacher equated this year's opening to the Grinch's discovery in the popular children's book. We have fewer desks in the room and far less decoration in our hallways and on the walls of our classrooms. We haven't been able to gather for our traditional opening day breakfast or enjoy presentations and share summer stories. But Opening Day is coming anyway! It will be joyous even without all of the usual trimmings because our students will be with us!

On behalf of the Board of Education and the Administration, we are so proud of our staff and their "WE CAN DO THIS" attitude. We want this school year to continue in good health and safety and now we need YOU, the parents, to HELP US by completing a daily screening every day.

Student screening should be completed at least 20 minutes prior to the start of school and ONLY FOR THOSE ATTENDING IN PERSON THAT DAY. If a student's screening is not complete, parents will be contacted, and there is the potential that parents may need to pick up their child(ren) from school. Of course, we want our students to be here with us. Therefore, again, we need you to be responsible partners in protecting the health of our students and staff.

Recognizing the busy lives that we all lead, the district has purchased the rSchoolToday app. Please download it and review the directions here. You will need to set it up for your first use. It is very simple and user-friendly. Please review the symptoms list, if you select "yes" for any symptoms, please keep your child home and notify the school of your child's absence. If your child is not exhibiting any symptoms, simply click the "submit" button and your child's screening is complete for the day. Screenings must be completed for EACH of your children.

If you are unable to use the app to screen your child, the other alternative is to call our screening hotline at 973-584-5868. Select the name of your child's school, provide your child's name and state, "My child is not showing any symptoms." This must be completed for each of your children, but only if you are not able to submit the information through the app.

Again, students without screening clearance will not be permitted to participate in in-person instruction or any other on campus events, such as sports. We look forward to partnering with you in providing a safe and healthy environment for all.

Enjoy your Labor Day. Celebrate, make memories, but most importantly, be safe and practice healthy habits. We look forward to once again hearing our students' voices in the hallways of our schools.

Yours in Education,

Loretta L. Radulic Superintendent of Schools

Roxbury Cheerleaders Donate to Social Services
Roxbury High School cheerleaders recently donated $600 of its fundraising money to Roxbury Social Services. The donation was a gesture the organization said reflected the cheerleaders' belief in giving back to the community.

"When the Roxbury High School Cheer Program heard that our Social Services was in need, the program decided to step up and support our community, as they have done for us," said Shannon Maldonado, on behalf of the cheerleader parent program.

She said the money was raised through the sale of "Roxbury Pride" face masks with a promise of giving 20 percent of the sale proceeds to Social Services. The money was presented by senior class cheerleaders on Thursday to Roxbury Recreation Department Director Brett Douglas and Assistant Director Ryan Williams.
