Nixon Students Learn the Election Process
Fourth-grade students at Nixon Elementary School spent part of the fall season learning about the United States electoral process leading up to the November 8th election.

Students in Ms. Szatkiewicz, Ms. Pascarella, and Mr. Siegel's classes focused on the United States  government and how the three branches of government work along with how a bill becomes a law in this country.

Classes prepared for their mock presidential election with discussions of popular and electoral votes. Each student was then assigned a state to take on in which their vote would count for that States electoral vote.

The Affirmative team has created an unbeaten affirmative plan to meet the national resolve that: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People's Republic of China. Police Food Drive Helps Roxbury's Less Fortunate
The Roxbury Police Department is wrapping up its second annual food drive, and countless donations of nonperishable food collected since Nov. 1 are being delivered to the town's Social Services department.

These day-before-Thanksgiving drop offs will help supply more than 200 families that Roxbury Social Services assists. Roxbury's youngest generation has played a huge role in gathering food pantry donations this year, said Roxbury Police spokeswoman Jennifer Dillard.

"We had over 70 kids come into headquarters (to donate), but that doesn't count all the kids from Kennedy School, Bus 25 and Roxbury Jr. Gaels Competition Cheerleading team (who all contributed)," she said.

Roxbury Fire and First-Aid Come to Social Services Rescue
The men and women of Roxbury Fire Co. 2 are not rock stars. To Roxbury Social Services Director Janet Wald they're better than that. They're "rock solid."

The volunteers spent seven hours last Saturday outside the Ledgewood Walmart where they asked inbound shoppers to consider buying items for Roxbury's less fortunate. The result was not only a testament to the goodness of the fire and rescue folks but also to the generosity of Roxbury residents.

It was the second time the first-responders conducted their holiday Social Services drive outside the Walmart. They previously did it outside the former Pathmark in Landing. Last year's effort was successful, but this year was even better, according to Wald.

The Scouts will be back at the scene Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. They will return next Friday for a 6 p.m.-to 9 p.m. stint and on Saturday, Dec.3 they'll be selling the creations both at the fire station and down the street at the Home for the Holiday event.

Accents on Dance Upcoming Programs

Hip Hop Dance After School

Hip Hop is an eclectic street style of dance that is performed in running shoes to current upbeat tempos. The dynamic moves taught in Hip Hop class are fast, stylish, funky and similar to those seen in music videos.
This class is appropriate for high energy dancers that are driven by a beat. Similar to a Jazz class, Hip Hop is broken down into 3 parts - warm up, corner work/technique and choreography. Students in a Hip Hop class will work on their strength, flexibility, and musicality through intricate fun and fast paced funky choreography.
Since the tempos are usually quicker than any other dance form, the choreography in a Hip Hop class provides a great cardio workout and is also a fun way to exercise the mind and memory.
(Children should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers to class)

Date:   Throughout the 2016/2017 School Year
Time: After-School at the Designated School
