Special Olympics New Jersey athletes go for the gold at Winter Games
Congratulations to seventh grader Cesar for his win in the Special Olympics of the Slalom and the Super G! EMS sends out a super shout out and wishes you well in States and Jr Olympics next month!

On the eve of the Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, hundreds of Special Olympics athletes gathered at Mountain Creek for alpine and cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoe competitions.

Cesar Maxwell, a 12-year-old from Landing, is the first snowboarder competing for the Vernon Mountaineers. Also a competitive swimmer with McARP, Morris County Swim Club, and the Shore Hills summer team, Maxwell has been riding since he was 5 years old. Using his snowboard instead of skis, he won both the slalom and super-G at his first Winter Games.

"Swimming worked well with his differently abled self, where he could be part of a team and still have the focus of an individual sport. Snowboarding is the same," said Cesar's mom, Suzanne Maxwell. "It's wonderful to see them realize their dreams, before they even realize it's their dream." It Runs Through Roxbury; You Can Help Clean It
Roxbury residents are being invited to help clean a waterway that starts in their own backyard: The Musconetcong River.

Sponsored by the Warren County-based Musconetcong Watershed Association (MWA), the 26thAnnual Musconetcong River Clean-Up is scheduled for April 14, said MWA Communications Coordinator Karen Doerfer in a statement.

This year is special, because it's the 50th anniversary of the National Park Service Wild & Scenic Rivers Act. To honor that landmark, the MWA joined a nationwide river protection effort called the American Rivers Cleanup, according to Doerfer. American Rivers' National River Cleanup is a series of community-based river and stream cleanups taking place across the country. 'Treetop Adventure' Project in Roxbury Scales Zoning Board Review
A plan to build in Ledgewood a "treetop adventure course" that would include aerial zip-lines advanced Monday as the Roxbury Zoning Board endorsed a number of the project's new design ideas.

The Tree Top Adventure facility would be built on 45 acres along Mt. Arlington Road. It is a project first approved by township officials five years ago but one that was shelved until being revived recently under new ownership.

The outdoor adventure park, as approved in 2012, will have a number of "adventure venues" including zip-lines, obstacle courses and other features "mounted on trees near the tree canopy," according to township records. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.
